MORE THAN 40% OF ALL TEENS WITH INTERNET ACCESS HAVE REPORTED BEING BULLIED ONLINE*
SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Recently, MASK Director of Education Pam Baumann conducted a presentation on Bullying and Cybersafety to students at Gavilan Peak School in the Deer Valley Unified School District. Approximately 250 4th through 6th grade students learned
how to stay safe while online and what to do if they experience online bullying.
"Bullies are no longer just the mean person on the school playground," said Baumann. "It is important for children -- especially the younger ones -- to understand that bullying often occurs online, while in the privacy of their own homes."
The age-appropriate MASK presentation included information about some of the dangers that can arise through technology. The students learned strategies and tools on how to navigate through a world of being connected 24/7.
"Pam interacted with the students throughout the presentation," said Don Wertheim, Gavilan Peak school Counselor. "She gave examples of Bullying and engaged the students to reflect on situations they may have faced in their own lives. The presentation was relevant to our students, and gave them insight into how to deal with bullying and the need for safety when on the Internet."
