MASK PRESS RELEASE

From:  Michelle Cardini (michelle@maskmatters.org)

Date: January 21, 2014

MORE THAN 40% OF ALL TEENS WITH INTERNET ACCESS HAVE REPORTED BEING BULLIED ONLINE*

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Recently, MASK Director of Education Pam Baumann conducted a presentation on Cyberbullying and Cybersafety to students at Lakeview Elementary School in the Washington Elementary School District. The two-part presentation was given to students from Kindergarten to sixth grade, and covered information about how to stay safe while online and what to do if they experience online bullying.

"Bullies are no longer just the mean person on the school playground," said Baumann. "It is important for children -- especially the younger ones -- to understand that bullying often occurs online, while in the privacy of their own homes."

Approximately 600 students attended the age-appropriate presentations, which included information about some of the dangers that can arise through technology. The students learned strategies and tools on how to navigate through a world of being connected 24/7.

"Pam and MASK did a wonderful job engaging and informing our students on bullying -- what it is, and what it is not," said Lakeview Principal Tim Woodward. "Thanks, MASK, for giving your time to our students."
