MASK PRESS RELEASE

From:  Michelle Cardini (michelle@maskmatters.org)

Date: November 12, 2013

IN AN AVERAGE DAY, 4,365 ADOLESCENTS  AGES 12 - 17 USE AN ILLICIT DRUG.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - On October 29th, MASK Co-Founder and Director of Education Pam Baumann presented to 95 high school students at Rancho Solano's Ventura campus. Students were educated about current drug trends, including the dangers of synthetic drugs, prescription drug misuse and illegal drugs, and they watched a real-life testimonial about the often fatal consequences of drug use.

"It's common for many high school students to think that bad things [regarding drug use] only happen to 'bad kids', said Baumann. "Without scaring them, I make them aware that, unfortunately, these things do happen. I share personal stories of good kids who have made bad choices regarding drugs, and who have lost their lives, lost friends, and who are living with the consequences of their choices."

"Drug education is so important, along with sharing consequences of what can happen to anyone," said Rancho Solano Principal Nicole Gorman. "Our students need to be aware of what's out there."

The MASK Drug presentation is designed to address possible effects, consequences and laws pertaining to drug use, as well as the adverse reactions to prescription drug misuse, the health hazards associated with synthetic drugs, and tips and tools on how to handle peer pressure situations.
