MASK 2013 "Dad Dialed In" Award presented to Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton at the 5th Annual MASKer Aide Gala
SCOTTSDALE, AZ -Five years. Five years of engaging, five years of educating, five years of empowering families with the tools and resources they need to improve the lives of their children. MASK (Mothers Awareness on School-age Kids) celebrated this milestone, at the 5th annual MASKer Aide Gala, held on October 5th at the Fairmont Princess.
As part of the evening's festivities, MASK honored a special dad, a talented mom, a school and a family that exemplify the same spirit and mission of MASK. Awards were presented by Kimberly Cabral, Founder and Publisher of MASK and emcee for the evening Mark Curtis of 12 News.
"DAD Dialed In" Awarded to Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton - Raised in west Phoenix by a family committed to their community, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton is MASK's 2013 "Dad Dialed In" award recipient. The son of a hard-working shoe salesman and a devoted educator, Mayor Stanton has always known the importance of giving to others. Growing up, he helped collect clothing, food and diapers for people in need. And in college, he co-founded an after-school program that helped elementary school-age kids with homework and basketball.
As Mayor, Mr. Stanton is committed to supporting a city with strong schools, safe parks and neighborhoods, diverse industries and a strong economy-all the things that ensure a bright and successful future for our children. But what he's as strongly committed to is making sure his own children enjoy a childhood in which their father is a significant presence in their lives. So despite the hectic schedule that comes with developing the growth and prosperity of the sixth largest city in the country, Mayor Stanton does what dads do best. He picks his kids up from childcare and plans spontaneous weekday afternoon outings. He takes them to see the latest exhibits at the Arizona Science Center, and enjoys bike rides through Encanto Park with them. He and his wife Nicole make sure they eat dinner together as a family whenever possible. There's no doubt it's a tough job running a city. But it's an even tougher job raising children in a world full of difficult challenges. Mayor Stanton's outstanding and dedicated commitment to both jobs is testament to him as a leader and a father.
2013 recipient of the Engagement Award is Tina Greggo.
Ever since she received her first camera at the age of 9, Tina Greggo's passion for photography took hold and never let go. A mother of two, Tina has been a devoted supporter of MASK and has tirelessly donated her time and talents to the organization. Through her creative and captivating images, she helps bring to light not only the issues facing our children today, but also MASK's mission of empowering parents and families with the knowledge they need to tackle them.

Rancho Solano Preparatory School is the 2013 recipient of the Educational Award
As one of the leading private schools in Arizona, Rancho Solano Preparatory School is committed to educating, empowering and inspiring students from early childhood through 12th grade. And while their academic approach
is focused on core competencies, critical thinking and complex problem-solving, it is their commitment to educating the whole child that has earned them the distinction of this year's Educational Award. At Rancho Solano, students are taught positive character development, as well as the values of respect, responsibility and success.
With these tenets in mind, MASK has been fortunate to work with Rancho Solano students through monthly presentations and programs designed to give them the knowledge and life skills they'll need to make healthy decisions throughout their lives.

And the recipient of the 2013 Empowerment Award was awarded to The Halstead Foundation
When Joe Halstead, Arizona native and longtime Phoenix businessman, established the Halstead Foundation in the 1980s, his mission was to create a legacy that not only memorialized his family's hard work in early Arizona, but also gave back to the community they so loved. For nearly 30 years, the foundation has helped people of all ages in their educational pursuits. It has also given organizations dedicated to educating the community the ability to develop programs and curriculum. MASK is one of those organizations. Thanks to the Halstead Foundation, we have been able to continue our programming and reach out to areas of the Valley we had not been able to before. We are honored to have the Halstead Foundation as this year's Empowerment Award recipient.

"The 2013 MASK award recipients are so deserving," said MASK Founder Kimberly Cabral. "Without their support, and the support of many others, MASK could not continue to engage, educate, and empower through our magazine, and our awareness and outreach programs."
The evening culminated with MASK launching their newest program "Awareness Through The Arts" performed by Royal Dance Works and choreographed by Tony Suski and Maria Jones.
MASK extends sincere gratitude to all who attended, supported and sponsored the 5th annual MASKer Aide Gala. A special thank you to Brooke Goodale and Alex Maldonado for their performance as well as Zoe and Michelle of Mrs. Hancock's Wedding Planning/Coordinating, Sean Wallace of EventSmart Productions, Keith Scharfman of American AVC and the Fairmont Princess .
