Knowing Who You Are Gives Adolescents a Sense of Control That Allows Them to Navigate Through Life
Scottsdale, AZ - To a young person, "fitting in" is one of the most significant factors that affect their self-esteem and self-worth. As children grow, they begin to develop their identity -- a sense of self that includes their interests and the types of people they relate to -- that creates the foundation for who they are and what they will become.
Recently, MASK Co-Founder and Director of Marketing Michelle Cardini, continued a presentation series to Highlands Church and engaged, educated, and empowered parents on the importance of self-esteem. Parents learned how to help their child develop their identity, elevate their self-esteem, and make them feel they have a place in this world.
"I am a mother of 5 ranging in ages from 2 to 11. After attending the first MASK presentation, I had an opportunity to give some of the ideas and suggestions a try with my 11 year old daughter on one or our evenings in the car together," said one Highlands attendee. "She shared a story with me about one of her classmates being bullied and asked me about what she should do. I thought about the "Engage" and "Empower" ideas that were shared at the MASK presentation... and instead of giving her an answer (which is more typical for me), I started asking her some questions and listening to her thoughts, feelings and actions that she had taken so far. Wow! I heard so much from her by keeping my mouth closed more, engaging her in the dialogue and empowering her with her own ability to work through and come up with some solutions on her own. I will continue to attend the MASK presentations knowing that what I learn will be useful for me and my family. Thank you so much for what you do and what you represent."
Highlands Church is taking a proactive role by offering this series of MASK awareness presentations to their members and the community. All Highlands Church presentations are open to the public.
