A Quick Note
We are thankful for the continued support from our clients over the past year. Despite the uncertain economic and political climate, Academic Benchmarks was fortunate to begin working with several companies as well as to deepen our relationship with many of our longtime clients.
We hope our first newsletter of 2013 offers you helpful insights into AB's current and planned efforts.
Sincerely,

Happy 10th Birthday, Academic Benchmarks!
Company Looks to Build upon Market Adoption, Expand Services
T en years ago, Academic Benchmarks proposed a solution to the providers of K-12 education that addressed the inefficient management of the myriad state standards that existed. Academic Benchmarks soon became the industry standard that "just worked". Over the years, a diverse set of providers, across market segments, have recognized that AB helps tackles the complex challenges standards present beyond the simple tracking of the content revisions. We are proud of the work we have accomplished, grateful to our clients who have helped us grow, and excited for the future of AB services.
In 2013 like 2003, the K-12 education markets continue to explore ways to make the organization of data and content more effective. These initiatives, known by to all by their alphabet soup of letters, have helped the industry agree on several best practices. However, Academic Benchmarks has learned that each organization still seeks, at its core, to differentiate itself from the field. Recognizing this reality, Academic Benchmarks is driven by the desire to collect all standards, expectations, and competencies related to learning and to describe them for our clients in the most meaningful and contextually-relevant manner possible. Standards are the foundation from which Academic Benchmarks launches its efforts. We seek to bring our clients beyond the standard.
Over two dozen new clients joined the AB network of clients in 2012. Looking forward, emerging start-ups, acquisitions, and refreshed business models are sure to help shape the landscape of education. We are excited to reinforce our existing relationships and enable the next innovative wave of products and services. @acadbenchmarks #wwwab

AB Attends SLC and LRMI Camp
Two-day Session Attracts Educator and Provider Community
Earlier this month, AB's Vice President of Product , Ramsey Chambers, spent two days at the Bay Area Shared Learning Collaborative (SLC) and Learning Resource Metadata Initiative (LRMI) Camp. The enthusiasm around these two initiatives is evident from the leadership, but more importantly from the teachers and developers that attended the codeathon to create the most innovative SLC app.
Alongside the enthusiasm, there are still many questions in order to better understand how these initiatives will impact the AB client community of K-12 providers such as: When will these initiatives reach critical mass? How will platform providers and content providers need to shift their business and technology strategies to participate if and when that time comes? AB will continue to monitor, participate, and prepare to make sure that the investments you've made around standards alignment can continue to be leveraged well into the future. @slcedu #slccamp |
