August 11th marked the beginning of Synergy's 11th year educating children in its South Los Angeles neighborhood. Synergy Academies welcomed 1,385 elementary, middle and high school students back to school. STEM Training for Teachers and Staff

  Before school started, staff from all three Synergy schools came together for a day-long training focused on Synergy's approach to incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) skills in every classroom. Synergy teachers and staff members discussed how a STEM-focused curriculum helps to build career and life skills, including creative problem solving, collaborative team work, and persistence.

A Message from Synergy's CEO, Dr. Meg Palisoc
 I have had the honor of seeing Synergy's growth over the past 10 years from the inception of its first school in 2004 through sending its first student to attend college outside of Los Angeles in 2014. I have also been blessed over the years with the opportunity to work with fantastic colleagues and board members. As we embark on the beginning of the next 10 years of Synergy, I want to share with you that Synergy's board is giving me a tremendous opportunity to take a sabbatical from September 17, 2014 through January 12, 2015. I will use this time to rest, reflect, and rejuvenate. I will also work on a special project where I will visit schools in Amsterdam and Paris with Phi Delta Kappa International in order to bring back best practices to Synergy's schools. While I will miss being hands-on with Synergy's day-to-day operations, I know that our schools are in great hands, and I look forward to seeing the amazing things that our staff, students, and families will have accomplished while I am away.
