by Eva Dunn-Froebig, RWM Executive Director

Run Wild Missoula has contributed $20,000 to the surfacing of Hellgate Track at John Toole Park (Riverbowl). Missoula XC TF, the nonprofit fiscal sponsor of the project, estimates the total cost of the project is approximately $250,000.

"We are pleased to have contributed to this significant community project," said Carol Lipp, president of Run Wild Missoula's board of directors. "On behalf of all our members, our hope is it will create excitement and awareness of the need for the surfacing project and encourage other community members, businesses and foundations to support it as well."  Alpine PT LogoAs runners begin to increase the distance with training for longer runs there are many areas that can be affected, or possibly injured. One common area that runners complain of is shin splints. This is pain in the lower inside leg (along the tibia) caused by abnormal stress placed on the outside layer of the tibia bone by overuse of either the anterior tibialis or the posterior tibialis, usually associated with a change in activity level. Read more here about treatment of shin splints and when to seek professional treatment.
