METRONews
Greetings!

Cloud Computing Computers and the Cloud

Should I be using the "Cloud"?

Is the "Cloud" something that
saves me time and money?
Does the "Cloud" make my job easier?
Do I get something from the "Cloud"
that cannot get any other way?

These are all good questions and each can be answered "YES".

BUT - like most things in life, just because it is possible, does not mean it is practical or beneficial. There is always a trade-off of some sort.

The "Cloud" refers to the Internet and Internet hosted computers and computer services.   We have all heard of "Cloud Backup" - that is a service you pay for and the service provider is connected to you via the Internet.

The simple antivirus software running on our computers installed to keep us protected from uninvited malicious computer programs include a "Cloud" component - always downloading and installing updates without us involved.

You now can plug into virtual "Cloud" radiology groups.  Your Metron can send some or all of your acquired X-Ray images to a radiology system in the "Cloud".  Expand on that - the "Cloud" can be your PACS - storing and controlling who and how your diagnostic images get viewed.

Send Images Web-Viewer The GOOD about the "Cloud" - you rarely have a startup cost - no hardware to buy etc - just a monthly fee!

The BAD about the "Cloud" - you lose control.  Depending on the type of service, it may be very difficult to change once you start with a service - they hold all of your data etc.

Even Metron has a "Cloud" service: MetronWebViewer.   Short of being a PACS, the MetronWebViewer makes it quick and easy to share images within the practice and anywhere in the world - with staff, colleagues, and clients.   The MetronWebViewer is FREE - just a web browser and an Internet connection and you too are working in the "Cloud"!

Do you use ImproMed?

You are able to click and pass Client/Patient info from ImproMed Infinity to Metron.

ImproMed Infinity-Metron 6.11 logo Pass Client/Patient data from ImproMed to Metron
We have successfully tested the ability to send client/patient data from ImproMed Infinity to Metron.

This is called Modality Worklist (MWL). From within the Infinity medical record, there's an option to request a "radiograph study" which is a MWL.  Metron utilizes that MWL to create the client, patient and study.

The result of this easy to install interface is a quick and accurate Metron patient record utilizing the data already in the practice's ImproMed Infinity patient record.

Client Requirements:

1 - ImproMed Infinity with active ImproMed support agreement

2 - Metron version 6.11 or higher

3 - ImproMed "DICOM Imaging module"

Most practices will not already own the ImproMed DICOM Imaging module.

This module is a required purchase from ImproMed.  The module price is approximately $680. (This single module is for both the ImproMed MWL and Q/R capabilities)

NOTE: Shortly after the new version 7 release, we will have a point release that will allow the following integration feature.

We are also work on the ability to Click to view Metron X-Ray studies from within ImproMed Infinity patient record

Scheduled for release - view Metron X-Ray studies from within ImproMed

Also possible with ImproMed Infinity and soon to be available with Metron is the ability to view X-Ray images from within the Infinity patient record. In the near future, it will be possible to look up and view (Q/R) X-ray images from any computer already running ImproMed Infinity.  From within the Infinity program, display the patient medical record and click to display all X-Ray studies for that patient, then click to display the image.

Note: this is viewing only, not diagnostic viewing with the capabilities to use all the Metron features.  They will need to use the Metron Viewing licenses for that capability.

Client Requirements:

1 - ImproMed Infinity with active ImproMed support agreement

2 - ImproMed "DICOM Imaging module"

Most practices will not already own the ImproMed DICOM Imaging module.

This module is a required purchase from ImproMed.  The module price is approximately $680. (This single module is for both the ImproMed MWL and Q/R capabilities)

3 - Metron version TBA
