Girl of the Month

India is our Girls Inc. Girl of the Month! She is in the 6th grade at Huffman Middle School and has attended Girls Inc. Crestwood Center for one year. India loves to read and History is her favorite subject in school. Her  favorite thing about Girls Inc. are the instructors: "They are different than the teachers at my school, so it makes learning new things easier." India wants to be a musician when she grows up.
Charity Dress Sale Benefiting Girls Inc.

Happy Spring! Well, it's almost Spring and we are very excited about the thought of warmer weather! We are preparing for all of our summer programming and have already begun registration for the Crestwood and Walker Summer Programs and the Eureka! Math and Science Camp. 5th Annual Cajun Cook-off set for April 11th!

The 5th Annual Girls Inc. Cajun Cook-off is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Railroad Park. The event features a Cajun cooking competition and your vote helps to determine the winner! Guests can sample food prepared by at least 15 amateur cook teams. Last year's favorites included shrimp po' boys, jambalaya and shrimp 'n grits! Check out pictures from last year's event here. Calling all "strong, smart, bold" girls in Walker County! 

The Summer Program will take place June 1-July 17, 2015 from 8AM-5PM weekdays in the Memorial Park School, 800 10th Ave., Jasper. Activities include summer learning, swimming, field trips, arts & crafts, and much more! Onsite Early Registration will be held on the 2nd and 4th Saturday in March, April & May from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Total cost is $225.00. It's time to register for the Crestwood Summer Program!

The Crestwood Center is currently accepting applications for the 2015 Summer Program. The Summer Program will take place June 1st - July 31st from 7AM- 6PM weekdays and the total cost is $500 + $25 membership fee. Activities include field trips, swimming, health education, creative writing, sports, and much more! A visit from the Junior League of Birmingham!

We are so grateful for our longstanding partnership with the Junior League of Birmingham. Their "Yummy Truck" visited the Crestwood Center last month to teach girls in the Health and Nutrition class how to make healthy snacks. The Junior League's Project Yummy "empowers youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and fight childhood obesity and its associated health issues." Thank you to the Junior League volunteers who helped to organize this session!

Eureka! Math and Science Summer Camp

Girls Inc. of Central Alabama is now accepting applications for our Eureka! Summer Camp! The 2015 summer camp dates are July 6-31, 2015

weekdays from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and is open to girls entering the 8th grade. The camp will be held on the campus of UAB in the Business and Engineering Complex. Daily activities include hands-on lessons led by experienced instructors and faculty from the School of Engineering. Participants also enjoy field trips and physical activity through both traditional and non-traditional adventure sports activities, such as rock climbing and hiking! Women and Girls HIV Awareness Day

The  Women and Girls HIV Awareness Day will be held on Friday March 13 in the Crestwood Center, from 4:00-6:00 pm. Ebony Blake of AIDS Alabama has agreed to provide confidential HIV testing for the parents and HIV awareness for our girls. Last year we provided testing for seven parents; our goal is to increase that number to ten parents. Refreshments and prizes will be given away.
