APRIL 2014
Dear Colleague:

With UK's annual Benefits Open Enrollment period underway (April 28 - May 16), I encourage you and your team to visit our website for details. Open Enrollment offers employees the opportunity to update health, dental, vision, life or other benefit plans as needed. It's also a reminder that benefits are a highly valued part of the University's total compensation package.

Highlights of this month's Supervisor Solutions include a new training series, Leading for Excellence, designed to help experienced supervisors expand their leadership skills in such areas as motivation, communication and change management. We also feature a brief preview of UK's new online employment system (coming in June), upcoming events and more.

Update: New UK Online Employment System Will Integrate Position Management, Posting and Hiring Functions

A new UK employment system is coming this summer! Over the past year HR has been diligently preparing for implementation of a new UK Jobs employment system. Where regular (benefits-eligible) hires are concerned, the new UK Jobs Integrated Employment System (IES) will create seamless online workflows for virtually all aspects of the hiring process, from position creation and job postings to hiring approvals.

We have worked hard to design a user-friendly process and develop resources to help ensure UK departments make the most of the new system. Next month, we will launch a dedicated website and offer flexible trainings in both web-based and classroom formats to help supervisors, hiring officials, budget officers and others successfully manage this transition.

We plan to offer hands-on training in May with a go-live date for the new system in mid-June. Stay tuned for future updates via this monthly newsletter and direct email communications.

"I Quit...But Forgot to Tell You!"
You may have had the experience of working with individuals who may at times lack the drive to take initiative or consider new, more productive ways of doing things. Instead, the focus is on simply getting through the day. Sometimes referred to as presenteeism, this is the phenomenon of being present at work, but not fully engaged. What can be done to boost engagement and morale in this kind of situation? Learn more by reading this month's featured article

Web-Based or Virtual: What's the Difference?

If you are attending our University SuperVision courses in the classroom, you've likely heard us mention our web-based and virtual course options. Based on recent feedback, we'd like to clarify the difference in these two delivery methods.

Web-Based Trainings (WBTs) are self-paced training sessions that are available for the participant to access anytime, day or night, via the myUK Employee Self-Service (SAP).

Virtual training sessions are live, instructor-led online events scheduled for a specific date and time (just like a classroom session); however, participants can attend from the convenience of their home or office and still interact with the facilitator, speakers and other session participants. Each virtual session has its own unique meeting link and access to join. The University SuperVision team will email this information to the registered participants a few days prior to the scheduled virtual class. Learn more here

Who Reads Those Training Event Evaluations? We Do.
In a review of recent University SuperVision event evaluations, we've seen a growing number of requests for additional online courses on a variety of topics.

The UK eTraining & Development (eT&D) online course catalog may have just what you and your staff need. eT&D offers over 1,000 self-paced courses on a wide array of software and IT topics (including certification prep), plus access to books, mentoring, job aids, test-prep exams and more. Learn more here
