July 19, 2015: "Awe and Wonder"
Jessica Clay, with Nani Ranken, Worship Associate
Often as we go about our lives we get caught up in the day to day flow of life. How do we return to the present and cultivate a sense of awe and wonder in our approach to the world? Join us for worship as we explore this topic and look at ways to nurture ourselves and each other.
Jessica Clay is entering into her last year of seminary at Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, CA and is a Candidate for Fellowship with the UUA. During her time at Starr King she has been involved in student body leadership filling the role of Vice-President her first year, and President this past year. She has her Masters in Occupational Therapy from Pacific University and comes to ministry as a second career. Her call to ministry came within the Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Santa Monica, and she was a very active member prior to moving to Berkeley teaching RE, serving on the nominating committee and co-chairing the green committee. Since moving to Berkeley in 2013 she has immersed herself in school, pulpit supply preaching, traveling to Transylvania, and volunteering at San Quentin.
July 26, 2015: "Reclaiming The Wild Soul: A Sacred Journey Into Earth's Landscapes"
Mary Reynolds Thompson, with Rodney Gothelf, Worship Associate
Beyond the chaos and stresses of our modern age, there lies a forgotten yet primal terrain rich in wisdom, healing, and wholeness. In this special service, Mary Reynolds Thompson will guide us on a journey into Earth's great landscapes of deserts, forests, oceans and rivers, mountains, and grasslands as aspects of our psyches and souls. We'll ask the question: Does re-wilding the Earth begin with re-wilding our own nature?
Mary Reynolds Thompson is an acclaimed author and facilitator of poetry and journal therapy dedicated to bridging the false divide between outer and inner nature, Earth and Self. Her books are Embrace Your Inner Wild: 52 Reflections for an Eco-Centric World and Reclaiming the Wild Soul: How Earth's Landscapes Restore Us to Wholeness. www.maryreynoldsthompson.com

I went to see "Inside Out" at a matinee with my wife and daughter. A very cute and exciting movie with an up-to-date pop psychology message: You not only can have more than one emotion at the same time, they are often intricately tied together and one can manifest and support another. In a complex world, we need to honor our own complexity as well.
Some of our families are heading up to Sly Park for the annual camping trip this weekend Thursday-Saturday. Have a great time on the lake! Wish I could be there. Maybe next year.
Sarah Scott has completed her work with us at UUCM as Youth Adviser and is moving on to start a graduate program at California Institute of Integral Studies. We are grateful for her time and care with our youth, sad to see her go, and glad she has found a mission and passionate career interest as a Creative Arts Therapist. Thank you Sarah. Many Blessings on your path.
Grades 7-12 and parents are invited to join me in a field trip to Novato on Thursday July 23rd to the Computer Technology Resource Collective. You must
fill out a volunteer form here.

Message from Board President | | Foyer Project As you may know, Geri Randall and Lisa Wiggins are leading a project to overhaul the look of our foyer. Both Janette and the Board are providing oversight to this project. The funding is coming from the challenge grant initiated by Geri, and the funds that were raised in that process. It is a limited quantity of funds, and a limited project. The plan for repair and improvement of the closet has been approved and is largely completed. A plan for additional changes to the foyer is under development. Before any additional expenditures are made (other than the closet), there will be an opportunity for the congregation to comment and give feedback, and the board will make any final decisions and approve the rest of the project before it moves forward. Thank you to Thomas Ervin who has agreed to be the board liaison for this project. Thank you to Geri and Lisa for their leadership, initiative, and hard work in kicking this off and moving this piece forward. Dianne |
