Sunday Worship Service 10:30 am chalice

April 19, 2015: "UU Tradition and Scripture"

Rev. Chip Wright, with Karen Auroy, Worship Associate

First in a series of Sundays on liberal theology:

Unitarians and Universalists have a long and nuanced relationship with Abrahamic scriptures.  Learn about our unique evolution in relationship to the scriptures of the Bible and how they helped define who we are today.

Contemplative Service 9 am  chalice
Leaders

 4/19/15 Carol Kerr

 4/26/15 Jerry Moore

UUCM's early Sunday morning 9 am Contemplative Service in the Fireside Room is a lay led service.  Readings introduce a silent period to reflect on a topic or idea, followed by an opportunity to share individual thoughts.

Come and widen our circle. All are welcome!

And on Behalf of Everyone at UUCM:

THANK YOU one and all, for all the generous contributions to our life-sustaining Gratitude and Commitment Campaign.  The Campaign itself now is officially over.  It was a great "ride" with no rough spills from any cantankerous bull or surprise thunderstorm over the horizon.  And even the ponies for the kids at the sunny BBQ were smiling.  So please accept one big Lasso of Applause and Appreciation for getting your financial commitments returned to Wrangler Janette!  How sweet are the green pastures which are the basis of our life in the congregation.  And thank you for all those wonderful luscious pies and homemade ice cream that put a sweet top on the afternoon BBQ.  The pie judges all had something marvelous to say about every single one of the nine entries-as did the rest of us.

For those who haven't responded, please know that either the Finance Committee or Membership will be contacting you to see if you want to still be in good standing with the congregation.  And if you are new to us, please talk with Janette in the office about your contribution which will help support us and our work in the community.

See you on the other side of the horizons which are beckoning us to explore new ranges for UUCM in this coming year.

Singing "Lefty" who with her hat thrown back and her spurs a-jingling...

"Whoopee ti yi yo, get along little doggies

It's your good fortune which you can own

Whoopee ti yi yo, get along little doggies

You know that UUCM will always be your valued home."

On the Edge of Learning, and Enjoying

UUCM is in an active process of learning that there are many ways to reduce our negative impact on the growing climate and water crisis.  One way is to minimize our meat intake.  In this spirit we offered vegan entrees at the recent all-congregational BBQ.  Many were surprised by how tasty some of the options were and asked that we post several recipes in our newsletter.  So here is the link to the Vegan Black Bean Burgers for you to try at home: http://www.peta.org/recipes/black-bean-veggie-burgers/  (To make these burgers gluten-free as well, we used gluten free bread crumbs and flour.)

Enjoy the exploration!  Next week we will bring you the Vegan Cowboy Tamale Pie.

If you are attending General Assembly
uuachalice If you are registered or plan to, please notify groupemail@uumarin.org and give your name, email, cell phone number, hotel and means of transportation to Portland. We will probably meet in the Doubletree Hotel before the convention starts on June 24.
Art Exhibit - Inka Benton

The late Inka Benton was a wonderful photographer. Check out the beautiful and heartfelt images in the Fireside Room, captured by Inka on her global journeys.

Do you or family members have information available to inform family, medical personnel, etc. in case of an emergency or death? Has it been a long time since you prepared it, can you locate it?

We have upgraded and simplified the form into a one-paged back to back document. We are placing it on the UUCM Web Page. It can be filled out on your computer or printed out. Copies can be sent to the office if you wish to keep a copy on file. We will also provide copies in the foyer for anyone to take. (Mac users, works best with Safari, PC users, works best with Explorer) The form.

If you need help filling it out, we will be available to help you through the form. cjwlittrell.com@aol.com or 415-883-9676

Save the date: Saturday June 13 for a fun-filled day on Mt Tam!

We are taking a trip to Wonderland!

Where you can bask in the sun and commune with your UUCM community at the Mountain Play enjoying their presentation of Peter Pan.

Order your tickets at  www.mountainplay.org and plan to meet at the Park and Ride at Smith Ranch Road just off US 101 at 10 am that day. We will carpool to the Manzanita Parking lot and catch a school bus to the mountain. Pack a picnic, wear a hat, bring a blanket or cushions to sit on, your best pirate swagger and don't forget your sunscreen. Please email thomas.ervin@comcast.net if you have questions and to let me know that you are coming.

Best,

Thomas
