From the Administrator: Staffing Changes
| | Hello, and Happy Spring! I would like to let you all know about some changes that are happening in the office on the hill. Our bookkeeper of eight years, Mary Ellen Morgan, was recently promoted at her other job, which resulted in an increase of hours there. Sadly, this meant that she would no longer be able to function as our regular bookkeeper here. We knew at the time of her notice that it would be extremely difficult to replace her at her current salary, so we have decided to restructure things a bit here. Routine bookkeeping tasks will be moved into my purview. In order to offload some of my current tasks that are clerical or very routine, we have hired a 1/4 time administrative assistant. Mary Ellen will come in for a few hours per month to do the high level accounting and perform a financial review, for the purposes of checks and balances (we'll also be writing some new authorization procedures to ensure transparency of financial tasks). We are able to do all this restructuring without impacting the budget.
Our new administrative assistant is Karen Donohue. Her name may be familiar to many of you. She has worked here as a temporary hire four separate times since 2010, mostly when I have been out of the office for more than one week at a time. Her office hours will be Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. She can be reached at extension 101. Her e-mail address is karen@uumarin.org. For now, please continue to send requests through me, and the appropriate individuals or committees will be notified when contacts change for certain tasks (i.e., order of service, calendar, web site, etc.)
Here is a little more about Karen, from Karen:
Hello! I was born and raised in San Francisco and I now reside in Mill Valley with my 13 year old daughter, Hannah. I come to UUCM with over ten years' experience in the field of Administration. My first experience at UUCM was in 2010 when I had the opportunity to work as a temp alongside Janette. During this assignment, I was able to use my administrative abilities, as well as learn new ones. I also got to learn about the UUCM's values and recognize how our values parallel. Throughout the last five years, I have returned to UUCM to fill in for Janette on several occasions. With each job assignment, I've worked alongside welcoming familiar faces and new faces as well. Please stop by and say hi when you're in the area - I always enjoy meeting new people!

Basket Share | | Several times a year, the UUCM Basket Share program distributes half of the offering proceeds to a service or advocacy program in the wider community. This year's fifth Basket Share will be distributed to Little Brothers: Friends of the Elderly, a group brought to our attention by UUCM contributing friend, Karen Lohmann. On April 26 HARLEY TUNAC, Program Manager will tell us how our donations will be put to use. |
Seeking your nominations for Board positions
| | Who do you know in the UUCM membership that you would like to have represent you on the Board of Trustees? Each year the congregation elects members to rotate into positions on the Board that has oversight for congregational operations. After three years of service Board members rotate off and make way for new trustees. This gives new members time to learn about the leadership process and time to see their own contributions build. This year three current Board members will rotate off and we welcome all nominations between now and Wednesday April 8th. An effective Board includes a range of folks with a range of skills and interests. Who do you know that might be your kind of player on the Board team? Would you be one of those players? Ask a friend to nominate you! The Nominating Committee consists of Joyce Rhodes, Chair, Christine Kraemer, and Carol Kerr and we are charged with developing a list of candidates and asking them if they would serve. Please think about who you know and talk with any of us on a Sunday or send us an email. Joyce Rhodes: rhdjy@aol.com Christine Kraemer: redecho@comcast.net Carol Kerr: drckerr@pacbell.net |

Book Group April 15 | | The Devil's Teeth: A True Story of Obsession and Survival Among America's Great White Sharks by Susan Casey. This is an account of the great white sharks of the Farallon Islands and of the surfer-scientists who follow them. "A story of crossing the boundary between society and an untamed place where humans are neither wanted nor needed." Sher will lead the discussion and Sandy will present books for May. |
Call for Nominations for PCD Awards!

This is the time to lift those people up high, to be celebrated and thanked. Please see specifications for the Awards below. All nominations must be received no later than April 3, 2015.
