Sunday Worship Service 10:30 am chalice

September 14, 2014: "Smile Often, Dream Big, Laugh a Lot!"

Rev. Chip Wright, with Linda Haumann, Worship Associate

Healthy spirits are often a product of approach. How we
come at life can make a huge difference in what we achieve and the kind of success we can hope to have.

Contemplative Service 9 am  chalice

Leaders:

9/14   Carol Kerr

9/21   Jim Gronvold

UUCM's early Sunday morning 9 am Contemplative Service in the Fireside Room is a lay led service.  Readings introduce a silent period to reflect on a topic or idea, followed by an opportunity to share individual thoughts.

Come and widen our circle. All are welcome!

Questions, email Carol Kerr at [email protected].

Welcome Back. Our fall children's program starts  up this Sunday at 10:30 with great curriculum and wonderful teachers. We continue to support children and families in spiritual and personal growth through dynamic learning and caring interaction.

The kids are grouped much the same as last year. But we added a K-1 breakout in the Nursery. For information on the location, age grouping, teachers, curriculum description and more, link: RE nUUs web page.

Please note there is a meeting for all parents on Sept 21 after the service for registration, program update and thematic presentation, "Truth: What is that for you?"

Best REgards,

Jeffrey Melcher, M.Div.

The new Board is off and running!  We had our first official Board meeting on August 26, at which we assigned Board Liaisons to committees as follows: Margaret Johnston: Adult Ed, Endowment, Finance, and Personnel; Kristin Jensen: Botermans, Partner Church, and Social Justice; Dianne Estrada: Committee on Ministry, Nominating; Norm Davidson: Communications, Facilities; Henry Kingdon: Fundraising/Stewardship, Worship Associates; Dani Lundbaek: Memorial, Pastoral Care; Michael Jenkins: Membership; Ali Jenkins: Religious Education.  This information is also posted in the community room.  We also held an all-day Board Retreat on September 6.  It was a very productive meeting in which we discussed our congregation, our future, and what it means to be a Board member.

In other news, I would like to report to you that Small Group Ministry rejuvenation is officially kicked off.  I received enough responses to the survey to create three new groups!  The new Novato group is launching September 16, the new San Rafael group is launching September 29, and the new South Marin group is launching October 13.  If you missed the original survey and are interested in Small Group Ministry, just let me know.

One last thing -- be sure to come to the first Congregational Conversation of the program year which is happening this coming Sunday, 9/14!  Both the Membership Committee and the Board have suggested that we explore the theme of "Inviting People In."  Why would you do so?  Why is it important? What is in the way?  What about it makes you uncomfortable?  What contexts work for you, and what contexts do not?  Please come and participate in a conversation that is important to our future.

Best,

Dianne

Congregational Retreat, Oct. 24-26, 2014

Thanks to all who took a Retreat form last Sunday!

Hopefully, you have filled out the form and will be able to hand it to Thomas Ervin or Dianne Estrada this coming Sunday. If you laid the form aside and did not fill it in, please find your form and fill it in. If you paid on our website using the donate button, please note that on your form. If you did not pay online, please attach a check made out to UUCM with Retreat noted on the memo line and attach the check to the form. Dianne or Thomas will give the checks to Janette who will note that you have paid.

If you did not pick up a form, please download one from the link below and turn it in on Sunday. We need to have all completed forms turned in by
Sunday September 21st so that we can give Walker Creek a head count on September 24 (30 days prior to the Retreat). New this week is a link to the Talent Show Entry form. If you have a talent that you want to share at the Retreat, please download a form and note your entry. You can turn in your Talent Show Entry form to Thomas or Dianne.

Let's make this the best Retreat ever!

UUCM's own Religious Education program graduate, Jelani Bertoni, has put his UU values to work by creating a literal "hub" for his mission of community, creativity and education.

The Bicycle Works provides tools and instruction for bike repair. This center of Marin's cycling culture sells new and used bikes, parts, and accessories. All are welcome to visit the Bicycle Works' work space, "share ideas, relax and get stuff done."  Be sure to check out the selection of electric-assist systems and cargo bikes!!
