Sunday Worship Service  10:30 amchalice

July 27, 2014: "Heartbreak and Hope: Lessons from the Streets of San Francisco"

Suzi Spangenberg, with Rodney Gothelf, Worship Associate

What happens when you are 82 years old and lose your housing? Or are disabled and still on the housing waiting list after several years on the streets? What do you do if you are a transgendered sex worker being threatened with physical violence?

Suzi shares what she has learned as a chaplain working from 10pm-4am with San Francisco Night Ministry, who minister to unhoused and marginalized people living on the streets in the Tenderloin and other neighborhoods of San Francisco.

August 3, 2014: "Resilience: Buoyancy and elasticity in the face of Life's Big Changes"

Robert Drake, with Dianne Estrada, Worship Associate

Resilience: Webster defines "resilience" as: the power or ability to return to the original form, position, etc., after being bent, compressed, or stretched; elasticity; and: as the ability to recover readily from illness, depression, adversity, or the like; buoyancy.   Life never stops throwing curve balls.  Life changes constantly - so much loss, so much growth, so much change, so much!  Today we talk about what life sends us and our choices in staying present to those changes.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin

Congregational Retreat, Oct. 24-26, 2014

Great news!  We have brand new workshops lined up for the Retreat that you won't want to miss.  Kate McDonald will be leading a dance participation activity called "Circle Dances of Universal Peace." Katherine DaSilva Jain and Jinendra Jain will be leading a discussion called "Jainism: History, Precepts, and Practices."  Thomas Ervin will be leading a discussion on "Co-Housing".  In addition,  Mary Bicknell has agreed to lead her famous "Nature Hike for All Ages".  We would like to extend a big thank you to these workshop leaders!

We still have room for more.  We would like at least one more discussion or activity, and at least two crafts.  Thus far, we have no crafts lined up.  Are you skilled in a hands-on craft-like activity that you would like to share with the congregation?  If so, let us know!

Registration forms and Parent's/Guardian's Consent and Release Form. Watch this space for more information and updates.

Current Immigration / Refugee Crisis

uuachalice

People have been asking how they can help out with the refugees coming into the states in our District and Region.  Our congregations from San Diego County to Ventura County have been collecting needed items and connecting with refugees in the locations our government has placed them. We are also working with a number of local groups.

We have set up a Refugee Fund at the Pacific SouthWest District for those that want to contribute money to help with the work with the refugees. Checks can be sent to the PSWD with Refugee Fund in the notes.  They can be sent to:

PSWD-UUA

2052 Norma Street

Oxnard, CA 93036-2711

These funds will be shared with the groups we are working with who are working directly with the refugees.

Social Justice Education/Action Activities

Following a brief service, it will process just up the street to St. Raphael's Church where the names of the deceased will be read.
