Sunday Worship Service chalice

June 1, 2014: "Another Spin Around the Sun"

Rev. Chip Wright, with Linda Haumann, Worship Associate

I am always amazed at the power of language. We think of the sun as 'setting' and 'rising', but actually we turn away from the sun and then turn back into the light. Cycles are all around us, and we mark the end of one and start of the next at UUCM this Sunday.

Upcoming services

Contemplative Service

Contemplative Leaders for coming weeks:

 Sunday 6/1/14   June Fesler

 Sunday 6/8/14   Rev. Chip  Wright

 Sunday 6/15/14 Jim Gronvold

 Sunday 6/22/14 Geri Randall

 Sunday 6/29/14 Carol Kerr

We will take a break in July and August and resume in September.

UUCM's early Sunday morning 9 am Contemplative Service in the Fireside Room is a lay led service. Readings introduce a silent period to reflect on a topic or idea, followed by an opportunity to share individual thoughts.

Come and widen our circle. All are welcome!

Questions, email Carol Kerr at
drckerr@pacbell.net.

Remarkable People
old-man-woman.jpg

Our venerable and ever popular program -Remarkable People is coming back in September!  Mark your calendars for the third Thursday, 7:30 to 9:30 September through May (skipping  December.)

As before, we will meet in the Fireside Room and invite a member of the older generation and one of the younger generation to share special events, people, or influences that shaped their lives and the formation of their values and beliefs.  Each of us is remarkable in our own unique way, and this is what we celebrate through the presentations and discussion.

Nani Ranken is looking for a member familiar with the younger generation to help recruit participants when the time comes.

Thanks to all of you who have been contributing with cards to use for our members to celebrate or to cheer them. We are in need of more "Get Well" and "Thinking of You" type cards.  If you have some in your desk or drawer, we would surely appreciate them to cheer up one of our own.  Just drop the cards in the workroom in the Pastoral Care mail box and pat yourself on the back for helping us out!

General Assembly Online

General Assembly

June 25-29, Providence, RI

General Assembly (GA) is the annual meeting of our Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA).

Watching from your computer, iPad, iPhone etc. is an excellent way to experience GA without going there. It is not too late for someone to volunteer to set up watching events from UUCM. Contact the office to arrange space.

Events in the Plenary Hall are streamed live, and posted for viewing afterwards. You can watch from your home or congregation.

What You Can Watch and When

Generally, streamed events include:

  • Opening Celebration
  • All Plenary Sessions
  • Morning Worship in the Plenary Hall, including the Sunday Morning Worship
  • Candidates Forum (in years with contested elections)
  • Service of the Living Tradition
  • Synergy Bridging Service
  • Ware Lecture
  • Closing Ceremony

Video will be posted at least 15 minutes, and sometimes as much as several hours, after each live-streamed event (as quickly as we can process them). You can watch these any time.

Closed captions and transcripts will be available in mid-July.

More info.

Social Justice Homeless announcement

On May 15 Joan Nelson attended the Marin Organizing Committee (MOC) accountability session with District 1 supervisor candidates Damon Connolly and Susan Adams. Joan, who has "slogged through" many MOC events, reports that large groups from a dozen or so Marin churches show up at the accountability sessions to indicate support for a permanent homeless shelter. Please join Joan the next time she extends an invitation.
