Sunday Worship Service chalice

April 13, 2014: The Gift of Anger

Robert Drake with Worship Associate Rodney

Gothelf

This sermon is about freedom and salvation.  Many of us run from our anger.  We have so many dysfunctional assumptions surrounding this powerful emotion: I am not supposed to get angry. Anger hurts people. What if I lose control? I'm supposed to be "nice," etc., etc.  But we humans are approaching a place in our own and our planet's history when we must use the powerful energy of righteous and productive anger to save ourselves and our environment.  How do we untamp our voices to allow for our own freedom, healthy and satisfying lives, and the saving of our planet?  How do we harness and responsibly use the powerful blessing of our prophetic anger?

"Raising the Roof Beams!"

Calling one and all (that's YOU!)

to the first celebration of participation at UUCM in at least 5 years!

Please join us on this Sunday May 4th to celebrate all that we currently are doing. Come learn about ongoing committees and activities. Get inspired to join the activities, committee work and numerous other places where you can contribute. Bring your passions and calendars so you can consider where you might best fit into our efforts to grow and strengthen our community.

And while we are engaged in this all important volunteer planning, we will also be singing a passel of good old songs which will spur our creative spirits and passions. There are activities we need to develop as well, so come join in the fun and song and find a place to make a commitment to our common future! Let us keep our faith strong and vital, trust in the grace among us and raise the roof beams of our liberal religious community to new heights!  Onward and upward...

Egg coloring - We will have egg coloring again this year. Please bring a dozen hard boiled eggs on April 13th. If you want to help the kids we need a few more adults to help between 10:45-noon. We will leave the egg coloring tables up until 12:30 so adults coming out of the service at 11:45 can get a "crack" at the egg coloring too.

Make a Bonnet for our Easter Sunday/Flower Communion service on April 20th. For inspiration and perhaps a few supplies, stop by the special craft table in the courtyard following the service.  Creativity  encouraged. Have an extra hat? Or any Springlike craft supplies to donate? Drop them off at the table.

A Great UU Opportunity

The UUCM RE Committee thinks that getting you and your kids to the District Assembly is SO wonderful an opportunity for UU faith development that they are willing to spend some of the RE Enhancement Fund on getting your kids registered for the Children and Youth programing.

The Middle School and Youth do not even need to have you along in order to be part of the program. You can send them off, like to a retreat or CON. (Car pooling will be necessary and Janette is willing to be a sponsor.)

Programs for elementary age kids are also available, but you need to be there.

So, contact me about funding help and sign your child up for this UUA Pacific Central District's great opportunity.

Our next meeting is April 16 at 7:30 in the Clara Barton Room.  Our selection is Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates. This is a fictional account of the legend of Marilyn Monroe which "comes provocatively alive in this powerful tale of Hollywood myth and heartbreaking reality. Marilyn Monroe lives-reborn to tell her untold history . . .  of the intricate inner life of the idolized and desired movie star as only the inimitable Joyce Carol Oates could paint it." (Amazon)

All members and visitors are welcome to join our discussions.
