March 2, 2014: "Universalism: Past, Present and Powerful"

Guest Minister Rev. Kalen Fristad with Rodney Gothelf, Worship Associate

Our guest, Rev. Kalen Fristad, a United Methodist minister and member of the Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship, will be speaking on the history and significance of the teaching of Universalism.

Rev. Kalen Fristad has been a United Methodist minister for more than 37 years, is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship, and is President of the Christian Universalist Association. He traveled the country full time with his wife, Darlene, from 2003 to 2006. Then he served churches in Iowa half time, while spending half time on the road. He recently retired from the parish ministry, but continues to travel the country speaking on Universalism. Over the years he has spoken at more than 150 UU churches.

Kalen has written a book on universalism, entitled; DESTINED FOR SALVATION: God's Promise to Save Everyone, and a Study Book with the same title. His books, CDs and DVDs will be available for purchase after the service.

You are invited to The Rock Hill Gallery presenting "In Our Family: Portraits of All Kinds of Families". This photo exhibit from the Family Diversity Projects, a non-profit organization devoted to educating the public about issues relating to the diversity of family life, runs through February 27.

Through their photo exhibits they hope to eliminate such things as prejudice, stereotyping and name calling. We believe this is a very timely exhibit in light of everything happening in our country and hope you will enjoy and learn from the photos and written word that celebrate families of many kinds.

Viewing hours: Tuesday through Friday, 11am-5pm. Community Congregational Church, 145 Rock Hill Drive, Tiburon. For more information contact the office at (415) 435-9108 or visit our website:

Book Group
book pile
Our next meeting is March 19 at 7:30 in the Clara Barton Room. The selection is People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks.

One of the earliest Jewish religious volumes to be illuminated with images, the
Sarajevo Haggadah survived centuries of purges and wars thanks to people of all faiths who risked their lives to safeguard it. Geraldine Brooks, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of March, has turned the intriguing but sparely detailed history of this precious volume into an emotionally rich, thrilling fictionalization that retraces its turbulent journey. A complex love story, thrilling mystery, vivid history lesson, and celebration of the enduring power of ideas,  People of the Book will surely be hailed as one of the best of 2008. --Mari Malcolm

Celtic music, healing music, and chants

Celtic singer Laura Berryhill and keyboardist, harmonica and tabla player Anton Mizerak present an evening of Celtic song, transformational healing music, and chants from around the world on Sunday, March 16 at 7PM at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin.

$10 - $15 suggested donation.

Laura Berryhill, from Mount Shasta, has a masters degree in music history from the University of Oregon, where she focused on early 17th-century Italian sacred music. As a vocalist she works in a variety of musical styles, from early European music, to folk music of the Celtic cultures, to new age and jazz.

Anton Mizerak lives in Mount Shasta and writes his music in nature, believing that our organic experience of sun, wind, water, snow and earth, transmitted through music, can be a valuable nurturing and healing experience.  Anton plays keyboards and harmonica.  His music has been featured on the nationally syndicated radio show "Echoes" and the digital New Age Music formats "Soundscapes" and "Spa Channel."

Anton and Laura have toured together extensively since 2010, performing to acclaim at over 400 venues throughout the Western states.
