Sunday Worship Service chalice

February 23, 2014: "Knowledge Equality"

Guest Minister Rev. Stefanie Etzbach-Dale with Linda Haumann, Worship Associate

Unitarian Universalism has a complex history with and relationship to religious authority, and much of that has to do with the written word.  How might that history inform    your life and affect the wider community?

Rev. Stefanie lives in Santa Monica, CA and serves as Minister to the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Santa Clarita Valley. As Good Officer and UUMA Chapter Vice President for the Pacific Southwest District, she has connected with many SoCal congregations and welcomes this opportunity to worship with UU's in Northern California!

pumkin-carving-family2.jpg

You are invited to The Rock Hill Gallery presenting "In Our Family: Portraits of All Kinds of Families". This photo exhibit from the Family Diversity Projects, a non-profit organization devoted to educating the public about issues relating to the diversity of family life, runs through February 27.

Through their photo exhibits they hope to eliminate such things as prejudice, stereotyping and name calling. We believe this is a very timely exhibit in light of everything happening in our country and hope you will enjoy and learn from the photos and written word that celebrate families of many kinds.

Viewing hours: Tuesday through Friday, 11am-5pm. Community Congregational Church, 145 Rock Hill Drive, Tiburon. For more information contact the office at (415) 435-9108 or visit our website:

Celtic music, healing music, and chants

Celtic singer Laura Berryhill and keyboardist, harmonica and tabla player Anton Mizerak present an evening of Celtic song, transformational healing music, and chants from around the world on Sunday, March 16 at 7PM at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin.

$10 - $15 suggested donation.

Laura Berryhill, from Mount Shasta, has a masters degree in music history from the University of Oregon, where she focused on early 17th-century Italian sacred music. As a vocalist she works in a variety of musical styles, from early European music, to folk music of the Celtic cultures, to new age and jazz.

Anton Mizerak lives in Mount Shasta and writes his music in nature, believing that our organic experience of sun, wind, water, snow and earth, transmitted through music, can be a valuable nurturing and healing experience.  Anton plays keyboards and harmonica.  His music has been featured on the nationally syndicated radio show "Echoes" and the digital New Age Music formats "Soundscapes" and "Spa Channel."

Anton and Laura have toured together extensively since 2010, performing to acclaim at over 400 venues throughout the Western states.

The March trip to Tijuana will be an experiential learning tour hosted by a UU couple and two UUJM Immigration Steering Committee members.

We will visit the deportee drop center in Tijuana, Mother Asunta's shelter, Desayunador Salesiano and will attend the Sunday communion ceremony at the border wall at Friendship Park.

We will discuss congressional issues, detention center visitation programs, the economic issues that push and pull immigration and things we can do to take the message home to continue to be a driving force in the fight for compassionate, comprehensive, immigration reform in the United States.

For more information and to register.

Gordon Stewart, 1932-2014

fullrose

Hope Stewart's husband, Gordon, passed away from complications of pneumonia Monday, February 3. He had also lived with Lewy Bodies Dementia for the past ten years. Many of our members will remember both Gordon and his wife Hope, who was our primary photographer for many years. Hope was a member since the 1970's. She was involved in the membership committee. Hope and Gordon went on many church camping trips. They enjoyed dinners for 8 for at least 15 years.  Former minister Rev. Bettye Doty officiated their marriage in 1977. Several years ago Hope joined the fledgling Unitarian Universalists of Petaluma (UUP), where Hope remains quite active.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service is planned for Saturday April 5 at 2:00 PM at the Petaluma Women's Club, 518 B Street (Home of UUP). In an effort to assist Hope and her family with planning, please RSVP for the service to Janette at office@uumarin.org by March 25.
