Social Justice Dinner: "A Film That Can Save Your Life"
| | Saturday, January 11 5:30 - 8:30 (Doors open at 5) Join us for a hearty, delicious whole-food, plant-based dinner and view Forks Over Knives - a powerful documentary that Roger Ebert called "A film that can save your life." The fit, vigorous Bill Clinton has restored his health, post-heart attack and post-presidency, by adopting the lifestyle described in the film. And Al Gore recently announced that he has followed suit. Forks Over Knives explores decades of scientific and clinical proof that this lifestyle can prevent and even reverse many of the most common chronic illnesses that plague those who eat the Standard American Diet (SAD). Plus, find out how what we eat impacts: - Social justice
- Climate change
- A clean, potable water supply
- World hunger
- The health care crisis
- And, potentially, the preservation of life itself
$12/person for a tasty, nourishing, healthy "Food for Life" dinner. Reservations required by January 4. Email Food4Life@uumarin.org with questions or to reserve your space. Bring your friends and neighbors! Flyer |
Contribute to UUSC | | Most UUCM members identify with (and may have have contributed money to) various strategic actions in humanitarian crises, civil liberties advocacy, economic and environmental justice. Yet, many of us still feel a need to round out our year with some kind of direct community connection. There is still time to make this year's contribution to the UU Service Committee's response to disasters, and human rights: Economic. Environmental etc. Go to http://uusc.org/ |
Basket Share | | The Jan. 12 offering basket will be shared 50/50 with Image for Success: a volunteer, non-profit organization that provides complimentary wardrobes to men, women and children transitioning to a life of self-reliance. (Any checks made out to Image for Success will go directly there.) |
Send your Auction wishes | | On April 19th at 6 p.m. we will be holding the UUCM Auction! We would love you to come and find the one perfect item, or better yet, perhaps the perfect ten items! So, to help you find just what you wish for at the UUCM auction, we are asking that you provide us a list of your Auction wishes. What do you need? What might help you ease your very busy lives? You can send your wish lists to Lori Smith at LASMITH7@ATT.NET, or by calling her at 415-456-3822. Irene |
Use correct address for administrator | | From the Administrator: There have been a large number of e-mails that have been going to office@uucm.org. This e-mail address is for the administrator at a UU congregation in Milford, New Hampshire. She has been very kind and patient with letting us know when she gets our e-mails, but please remember that my address is office@uumarin.org. Many e-mail applications memorize every e-mail address you enter, so if the uucm.org e-mail is popping up in yours, please delete it. I promised her we would endeavor to do better! Janette Morrow Administrator |
Book Group | | There will be no Book Group meeting in December. Our next meeting is January 15 at 7:30 in the Clara Barton Room. Karen Greener will lead the discussion of Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea by Gary Kinder.
"Enormous publicity surrounded the 1989 recovery of an estimated billion dollars worth of gold, one of the greatest sunken treasures ever found, from the 1857 wreck of the SS Central America."
Members and visitors are welcome to join our discussions.

Dec. 22 Shelter volunteers included: Grace Callegari, Grace and Mason Dearborn, Nancy Kim, Carol and Walter Littrell.
As winter approaches, we are starkly reminded that our least fortunate neighbors are homeless all year long:
*Please put your name on the Sunday night Women's Shelter Dinner sign-up board in the foyer. *If you haven't yet responded to the Social Justice Committee's homeless appeal letter please do so as soon as you are able.
*Bring Socks, Toiletries & Food Bank contributions to the containers. (New white socks. Tube socks are best because they are a fit-all sizes.)
----------------------------------------------------------
Cleaning out closets and drawers? Instead of
bringing bags of old clothes to church take your unwanted items to GoodWill in San Rafael (Third & Lincoln) and be sure to tell the attendant to earmark your receipt for Ritter House. Ritter House, in turn, will hand out vouchers to the homeless people who can then find the kind of clothing they need.

Ever feel frustrated that you're not doing enough to make a difference in the world? Bring your concerns to the UUCM Social Justice Committee.
