Minister's Musings | | Chip's winter message: Wait until the winter hits with all its crystalline glory! Wait until the sky is filled With bursting sunsets pushing tangerine and salmon pink fingers into the long crisp night. Wait until the stars are so bright blinking seems wasteful Wait until winter hits in its full goose bump splendor! By then it should be Christmas warm hearths and family sweet as cotton candy soft as a feather pillow The house full of smells of pine sap and fir from the living room fire wispy smells of turkey, Goose, Ham Pies and puddings of all kinds nuts and sweet drinks. And yes, the warm covers tucked tight under chin while a cool face closes its eyes into long winters sleep. Yes, wait till winter hits If you can.... Chip |
Thoughts from Irene
| | Bet you are wondering what I have been up to this year. Well, I am working with a terrific team of folks on all things Membership. At the end of last year Rev. Chip suggested that this year I work on Membership. So in September I explored the needs in the congregation and sought to hire the Wesley funded Membership Coordinator as soon as possible. In that way we would have four hands, instead of two, creating, tuning and working the congregational hospitality systems and programs. During September we posted the position and several tremendous candidates applied. In October Jenn Smith agreed to take the position. Jenn knows this congregation well, and the congregation Jenn, as she grew up within it. Having recently returned to the area after completing her graduate education and some time abroad, I know she is excited to help us in this important role. During this same time several congregants came together to create our Membership Committee. Thomas Ervin, Nancy Jacobson, Christine Kraemer, Carol Littrell, Nani Ranken, and Dee Spake as well as Jenn and I have been meeting monthly. During the first two months the committee reviewed the hospitality systems currently in place and discussed areas of possible improvement. During these first months in the year, we also completed the Pathways to Membership program and will celebrate New Members this Sunday, December 8, 2013. There are many opportunities for you to help fold others into this beloved community. We would love to have you greet visitors as a Greeter or join the Membership Committee. Or if you have any thoughts on how best to bring visitors into this beloved community I'd love to hear those as well. If so, please email me at intern@uumarin.org. |
Contribute to Touch of Beauty | | Bring your personal 'Touch of Beauty' to UUCM. Every Sunday, there has been a bouquet or plant on the dais at the front of Fellowship Hall. The offering comes from a congregant, and - more importantly - from the heart, and it touches the hearts of many who enjoy it. We hope more of you will bring your own "touch" to a Sunday service in the first 6 months of 2014. Please choose a Sunday that you will participate and email the date to me ( sallyrschroeder@comcast.net). You may want to choose a date at random, or a date that would honor a loved one. Please remember, we are NOT professional florists (you've probably noted that already!). But every offering adds to the beauty and sacredness of the Sunday service. A special thank you to Terry Merrick for co-ordinating this effort for many years! |

Cleaning out closets and drawers? Instead of
bringing bags of old clothes to church take your unwanted items to GoodWill in San Rafael (Third & Lincoln) and be sure to tell the attendant to earmark your receipt for Ritter House. Ritter House, in turn, will hand out vouchers to the homeless people who can then find the kind of clothing they need.
---------------------------------------------------------- Anyone interested in taking the Companionship Training referred to by Street Chaplain Rev. Gaffney in his Nov. 10 sermon should contact Joan Nelson - 415-453-6221 - figleafjoan@comcast.net

Ever feel frustrated that you're not doing enough to make a difference in the world? Bring your concerns to the UUCM Social Justice Committee.
Next Committee meeting: Sun. December 8, Noon. (Clara Barton Room)
