Minister's Musings
Rev. Chip Wright
June, 2013

As the summer months approach I wanted to share my plan for a theme for my Sunday services next church year.  As the new millennium is on us in earnest now I have been amazed at all of the varied and different spiritual approaches, many of which are new ways of addressing some of our deepest human needs.  Read More:

As the RE program year transitions into a summer schedule we look to several changes in how we are going to function until the Fall.

- I work through the end of June, then have a summer break. I will be back to work the week of August 19th.
- RE classes move into parent co-op mode June 23rd. (Parents should talk to each other about this.)
- Some YRUU programing will continue this Summer.
- No Nursery Care Provider will be available after June 30th. The nursery will be open for parents.

Dates of Note:
June 9: RE Teacher and Volunteer Recognition Sunday. All Church Potluck. Yummm.
June 16th: Creative intergenerational service led by Irene Stefanko.

See selected Retreat photos on the UUCM Facebook page.

Thanks,
Jeffrey Melcher

Hospitality Committee Needs You
cookies The Hospitality Committee is very much in need of folks to tend to this vital part of our congregational life.  The Committee's mission is to supervise and assist with planning and executing events such as potlucks and the Christmas Eve service, and keeping the kitchen in good order and stocked with supplies.

Monique is ending her two year stint on the committee and Dani can't do all this alone. Can you help, maybe even for just a year?  Please contact Monique Webster or Dani Lundbaek. webster-dejong@verizon.net, dani.lundbaek@yahoo.com

 Wanted: YOUR Fundraiser Ideas
volunteers needed sign
Fundraisers are always better when the ideas come from you, our members and friends! If you've got a great idea for a fundraiser for next year, now is the time to tell us about it - the Board will be calendaring next year's fundraisers at our June meeting.

Tell us your idea by filling out this short application and returning it to the UUCM office by Friday, June 14. For more information, visit our Fundraisers page.

You may be thinking "My idea is great, but I can't possibly do it all by myself!" Don't worry, people will step up to assist you. They always do. There are many ways to help you recruit volunteers, but we need to know your idea first.

Questions? Please email Susan Ingersoll at fundraiser@uumarin.org or Janette Morrow at office@uumarin.org.

An application is now required per our new Fundraising Policy, so that the Board has the necessary information to effectively evaluate all fundraisers.
Book Group - June 19
book pile
Our Book Group meets on third Wednesdays at 7:30 in the Clara Barton Room.  Members and visitors are invited to join us in lively discussions.
The selection for June 19 is Restless by William Boyd:
"Boyd's ninth novel, an absorbing historical thriller, is loosely based on the history of a covert branch of British intelligence created to coax America into the Second World War. The story unfolds on parallel tracks as Sally Gilmartin, born Eva Delectorskaya, a Russian emigree recruited into the British Secret Service in 1939, reveals her clandestine past in an autobiography that she gives to her daughter, Ruth, a graduate student and single mother living a dull civilian life in Oxford in 1976."  (The New Yorker)
Family Camping Trip Sly Park: July 11 - 14
Thursday, July 11th through Sunday, July 14th. Sly Park - Hazel Creek camp on Jenkinson Lake just outside Pollock Pines on Highway 50, can accommodate tents or RVs.  (more information about Sly Park)

Cost-about $25-30 per vehicle per night (pets are $5/night extra).

RSVP Mikey (mikey@biosearchtech.com) (415.320.5054) or for questions.
Social Justice Education/Action Activities
Because the Winter shelter is closed until mid-November, there will be an even more pressing need (if that's possible) at the Mill St. Shelter and for the Street Chaplain's Tuesday night dinners.

Please keep an eye out here for details as needs arise.
