UUCM Religious Education Nuuws | | April, 2013 Whew! Time flies when you are having fun. I am having fun. Are you?
We do like to have some serious fun and some fun with the serious in our religious education program. The silly and the sublime can be found in our classes as we integrate learning and experience while holding the goal of developing in our children both a strong sense of self-definition, values, and deep connection to community: family, faith, and civic.
Our Spring is packed full of programs and community celebrations. Right after the All Church Retreat weekend, May 3-5, our Coming of Age ceremony and community potluck, May 12th, will feed our hearts again. Yes, this is Mother's day and it is a great way to share the time with a biological, adopted, or Earth mother in beloved community at UUCM. Learning at UUCM RE. 2013 Pledge Drive: Much to be thankful for!
|

Thanks to the generosity of our members and pledging friends, this year's Pledge Drive raised $128,056 in pledges for the upcoming church year! 83 households turned in pledges - that's a total of 118 adults and 30 children/youth.
Pledges are UUCM's largest source of income-about 66% annually. Your pledge helps provide inspiring Sunday services with great music, quality religious education for children and adults, and an inviting, sacred space.
Several households have not pledged yet. If yours is one of these, it's not too late to keep your UUCM membership current by submitting your pledge! Return your pledge form to the office or pledge online ASAP.

Art Show - Joan Nelson | | When Joan's husband died, in 2008, Rev. Pam walked into her home, and exclaimed, "Joan. You're an artist!" Joan replied, "No, I'm not. I can't paint the side of a barn." P. "Who told you that?" J. "Everybody: teachers, parents..." P. "They were wrong." Just look at the way you've appointed your home!" Pam refused to stop. So Joan agreed that she would take up painting in her old age. Pam peered over the top of her glasses and said, "Joan. This is your old age." Then she observed that it would be a fitting tribute to vitalize this room by converting it to a studio and releasing all those years of bottled-up talent. In 2012, short of money, Joan converted the studio to a rental unit and started stashing paintings behind the sofa. Occasional visitors have taken paintings into their homes, some even paying for them. And the impresario of the art gallery at Arrivederci Restaurant invited her to exhibit there in the fall. When you check out her paintings in the Fireside Room, be sure to read her artist's statement in the white folder. |

Community Potluck: May 12th
| | In celebration of Coming of Age and the extra bit to make the Budget Hearing that much tastier, FOOD. ~ Please bring a good home cooked dish, sandwiches, fresh fruit, salad, or dessert. Just to make sure we have full nutritional coverage and do not end up with 50 carrot cakes, here are suggested potluck assignments --> Last name A-H: main dish, I-P: salad, Q-U: bread and cheese or complex carb, V-Z: fruit or dessert. (If you have a great dish you like making and it is not in your category ... trade with someone. This is allowed.)
In a goal to move to zero waste potlucks, bringing your own tableware would be helpful.
UUCM will provide drinks: coffee service, milk and juice.

Book Group meeting - May 15
| | Our Book Group's meets on third Wednesdays at 7:30 in the Clara Barton Room. Members and visitors are invited to join us in lively discussions.
The choice for May 15 is The Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo. "Can people change? In order to observe the question with rich depth and balanced perspective, Russo focuses in on 3 main characters: Lucy, Sarah and Bobby. These lifelong friends each take compelling turns living the question and defining (and redefining) the answer through their relationships with family, friends and each other." (Guide)
