Sunday Worship Service chalice

April 14, 10:30 am: 'What Do We Worship?'
Robert Drake with Worship Associate Rodney Gothelf

As Unitarian Universalists, what is sacred?  If nothing is sacred, why do we worship?  Theologians say we worship what we have faith in, what our values tell us is powerful or good - what we trust to save us - this could be God or Community or Power or Money.  Recognizing what we worship helps us to understand why we worship.   If there is something transcendent about worship, is it because it allows us to access the Divine?

This week's Pulpit Guest, Robert Drake, is a seminarian at San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo.  He has been a member of UU Marin for almost three years.  As a theologian his primary interest is chaplaincy and pastoral care for the grieving and dying.

Book Group
book pile Our Book Group meets on third Wednesdays at 7:30 in the Clara Barton Room.  Members and visitors are invited to join us in lively discussions.

The selection for Wednesday, April 17 is Jeffrey Eugenides' The Marriage Plot.  "Moody spiritual seeker Mitchell Grammaticus is besotted with English literature loving Madeleine, who's just as besotted with brilliant, unstable Leonard. A standard love triangle? No, it's an extraordinary, liquidly written evocation of love's mad rush and the mistakes made in its name. Few books so effectively capture the territory lying beyond coming-of-age but before middle-age angst sets in."  Library Journal.
