Pastoral Care - Marin Catch-A-Ride | | This program is getting a great response! What is Marin Catch-A-Ride? It is a funded program that allows residents who are age 80 & older as well as residents 60 & older who no longer drive to receive a subsidy for taxis.
How does it work? It will provide eligible riders with $14 toward each one-way ride you take ($18 for low income riders). You will be allowed 8 one way rides per month. What will it cost? When you schedule your ride, your fare will be based on the mileage of your trip. The exact fare you will be required to pay will be given to you when you schedule. There are no vouchers to keep track of or meters to worry about. Marin Catch-A-Ride will take care of all of that for you. Where Can I Ride? Marin Catch-A-Ride will arrange for rides throughout Marin County. Though rides are subject to provider availability, every effort will be made to provide your requested ride. Who is Eligible? You must be: A resident of Marin At least 80 years of age Or, at least 60 years of age and unable to drive. Please Call: (415) 473-2943 or (415) 457-4636

UUCM Book Group | | Our UUCM Book Group will meet on Wednesday, March 20, at 7:30 PM in the Clara Barton Room. Sher Sheldon will lead us in a discussion of Zaitoun by David Eggers.
"Through the story of one man's experience after Hurricane Katrina, Eggers draws an indelible picture of Bush-era crisis management. Abdulrahman Zeitoun, a successful Syrian-born painting contractor, decides to stay in New Orleans and protect his property while his family flees. After the levees break, he uses a small canoe to rescue people, before being arrested by an armed squad and swept powerlessly into a vortex of bureaucratic brutality. When a guard accuses him of being a member of Al Qaeda, he sees that race and culture may explain his predicament." (New Yorker)
All members and visitors are welcome to join in our discussions.. Contact: Nani Ranken, 898-8558. |
Feeding Our Souls, Our Soil and Our Communities Conference
| | April 7th Event Helps Congregations Build Local Food Systems
The focus of the conference is addressing how congregations can strengthen the local food system. (Chip is involved with this)
Sessions will include: growing food at the congregation's site at a community garden or small farm; educating your congregation about the Farm Bill and other food policies advocacy opportunities; and how can congregations reflect their religious values with food policies for on-site events; and religious perspectives around food and sustainability. The event will also feature strategies to support access to fresh local produce for low-income people in the community.
The conference will be held Sunday, April 7th, 2013 from 2 - 6:30 p.m at Luchessi Community Center in Petaluma. Reservations are strongly recommended as space is limited. Registration is $45 prior to March 20th and $55 afterwards and includes: a resource guide and a reception featuring delicious local food. Full scholarships are available to ensure that as many congregations can be represented.
