UUCM Lead Youth Advisor Job Description

UUCM Congregational Retreat
May 3-5, 2013

We have added a new workshop for the retreat! Paul Dearborn has agreed to lead a "Contact Dance" workshop. Contact Dance Improvisation is a dance form that has been in existence for many years. It involves a point of contact between two bodies, and improvised dance movements around that contact point. It involves gravity, creativity, play, and fun. This workshop will be for high school and above.

We still have room for one or two additional workshops in addition to the one presented above. If there is a workshop that you want to give or a topic that you would like someone else to present, please let Thomas Ervin know! [email protected]

The deadline for signing up for the Retreat is fast approaching. We need to know who is coming in order to complete plans for the Retreat. Please access the links below and complete your registration. You can place completed forms in the Retreat box in the Community Room or turn them in to Thomas Ervin, Dianne Estrada, or Janette Morrow on Sunday mornings until the 24th of March. You can pay your fee by submitting a check with your form or by accessing the church web site and using the donate button. If you pay online, please note that on your form.

Book Group
book pileOur UUCM Book Group will meet on Wednesday, February 20, at 7:30 PM in the Clara Barton Room to discuss The Women by T. Coraghessan Boyle. This widely acclaimed novel is a fictionalized account of the life of Frank Lloyd Wright told through the experiences of the four women who loved him.    "The befuddling complexity of Wright's personality keeps writers coming back. And it's this complexity that T. Coraghessan Boyle pursues with his own characteristic energy . . .  His prose is full of vivid descriptions . . " (The New Yorker.)  Dee Spake will lead the discussion.  Members and visitors are welcome.  Contact: Nani Ranken 898-8558.
Social Justice Luncheons

February 17 - Cohousing
Joani Blank (UU─Oakland) has visited over 70 cohousing communities─urban, suburban and rural. She has lived in two of these practical, socially rich alternatives to apartments and single-family houses. She also ran an innovative San Francisco retail business as a worker-owned co-op.

March 17 - Bridge of Understanding
Jes Richardson, creator of the ten foot tall Gandhi Puppet, is building a "bridge of hearts" between the people of the United States, Israel, and Iran.  The Dear Iran Project, established after his second trip to Iran in 2010, cuts through politics by creating direct people-to-people connections.  Find out how you can participate by joining Jes on March 17.

NYJT is a transformative three-week experience for high-school-aged youth. It will be held in Boston, Mass., June 30-July 21, 2013. The program will include interactive social justice education and real-world internships, grounded in Unitarian Universalist values and practices.

Apply today through our online application.  We are accepting applications now through April 15.  See more.
