Adult Religious Education: House for Hope
What is the purpose of existence? How can we come to terms with the presence of what can be called evil?  Is there a source of healing and transformation that will bring about justice in heaven or on earth?

These questions and others will be explored in a series of discussions structured around the book A House for Hope - The Promise of Progressive Religion for the Twenty-first Century by John A. Buehrens and Rebecca Ann Parker.  The first of the discussions will be held on November 18, 2012 from 12:15 until about 1:30 pm in the Fireside Room.
Refreshment coordinator needed!
We need a Sunday refreshment coordinator ASAP. Carole Rosvold, who is currently our friendly, organized refreshment coordinator, needs to resign from this job in order to take even better care of her husband, Art. Can you be the one to step up to fill this important role?

Luckily for you, Carole already has most of this year's slots filled through the end of the church year. The new coordinator simply needs to remind each week's providers via phone or email and fill the remaining handful of Sunday slots.

Carole is happy to answer questions and help the new coordinator become familiar with the system. Contact her at: caroler36@comcast.net. Thanks for considering this important request!
UUCM art exhibit
After a long hiatus there is an art exhibit hanging in the Fireside room through the end of December. Photos on our facebook page.

Artist's Statement

The works-on-paper in this exhibit have been

Created at the O'Hanlon Art Center in the past 2 years.

They are a very personal statement of my involvement with

Art Perception workshops for over 40 years.

Seeing so many of my works together reinforces my feeling

about the importance of PROCESS...

I am excited to share mine with you.

UUCM Retreat, Walker Creek Ranch,
May 3-5, 2013, Committee members needed
Help make this the best retreat ever! We are looking for 4-6 individuals who would like to contribute their creativity and unique perspectives to help plan the retreat program.  The core part of the retreat consists of a series of workshops targeted toward different age groups, including outdoor activities, indoor activities, art, crafts, and discussion groups.  The most important job of the Retreat Committee Members is to help brainstorm workshop ideas, design the overall program, and help recruit leaders for the various workshops.

This is a limited commitment.  We plan to have no more than 5 monthly one-hour meetings (potentially on second Tuesdays, at 6:30-7:30, if that works for new people).  Most of our work can be accomplished through email and on Sunday mornings. If you are relatively new to our congregation or have never been to our retreat -- don't let that stop you!  Participating on the Retreat Committee is an excellent way to get to know people and become more integrated in the congregation, and we would love your new and original ideas.

If you are interested, please send an email to Thomas Ervin, Retreat Chair, thomas.ervin@comcast.net, or just let him know on Sunday mornings.
Honor the Transgender Day of Remembrance
Every year at the end of November, communities across the globe come together to commemorate the International Transgender Day of Remembrance-a day dedicated to honoring trans* people who have lost their lives to acts of violence over the past year.

This year, Standing on the Side of Love and the Church of the Larger Fellowship will host an online vigil that can be attended by anyone with a computer and internet access. Together, we will mourn those who are no longer with us, while also offering hope, beauty, and a celebration of the living.

Please join me for the online Transgender Day of Remembrance vigil on Monday, November 19 at 5:00pm Pacific time. Click here to RSVP and spread the word.

Balazs scholar speaks Dec. 2
snake doveSAVE THIS DATE!
At our Sunday, Dec. 2 worship service
the new Balazs scholar from Transylvania,  Adel Nagy, will speak from our pulpit. And after the service we can greet and meet her at a potluck luncheon.

Every year we have invited and hosted the current scholar for a talk and luncheon.  We have enjoyed meeting these fine young people from the Transylvanian tradition of Unitarianism.

(Do you recall that our own partner church minister, Levante Lazar, from Sovata, Transylvania, was here in 2010--2011?)  More later....
