Sunday Worship Service chalice

Nov. 11 10:30 am: Borders and Other Imaginary Lines
Rev. Chip Wright, with Worship Associate Bev Munyon

We look now into a new time as the story of this nation state we all share is once again re-established for another four years. We, the citizens, have set our primary leadership for this next cycle. It is time now to get back to the business of how we can be a part of the ongoing tasks of making a better world for all.

Contemplative Service

Our Lay led Contemplative Service is from 9:00-10:00 am on Sundays in the Fireside Room.

Readings introduce a silent period to reflect on a topic or idea, followed by an opportunity to share individual thoughts.

We will have a retreat in 2013!
The UUCM intergenerational event of the year is coming -- the UUCM Retreat at Walker Creek Ranch, May 3-5, 2013!

After an exhaustive search for a better or more affordable retreat site, we have concluded that Walker Creek Ranch provides the best balance of price, proximity, and facilities, so we are continuing our annual retreat at Walker Creek.  Be sure to mark your calendar!!!

More information will be forthcoming soon!

UU-UNO at Social Justice Table
The  Unitarian Universalist UN office supports the United Nations in its promotion of  global human rights and world community. The UU-UN office has Consultative  Status with the UN through its educational programs (such as  the Spring Seminar and UN Sunday) and through participation in the Economic, Social and Cultural Committee which gives input on policy issues.

Our congregation has a group membership in UU-UNO and individual memberships are welcomed.  Learn more about these activities by visiting their website and stopping by the Social Justice information table on November 11.
Homeless Outreach
feeding homeless All year long, UUCM's Social Justice Committee enlists volunteers to provide meals for the Marin Street Chaplaincy dinners, also for the permanent Mill Street Shelter.

Each year, with the approach of the holiday season, we dig a little deeper into our congregational heart to find extra volunteers to provide Sunday dinners for the Women's Winter Shelter. This year's sign-up board, with a full set of instructions, will appear in the foyer next week.

(It's not necessary to be a UUCM member to join in this rewarding direct community service. In fact, one regularly contributing anonymous non-member will "take care of" the December Mill Street dinner as a memorial to her son's mother-in-law.)
Balazs scholar speaks Dec. 2
snake doveSAVE THIS DATE!
At our Sunday, Dec. 2 worship service
the new Balazs scholar from Transylvania,  Adel Nagy, will speak from our pulpit. And after the service we can greet and meet  her at a potluck luncheon.

Every year we have invited and hosted the current scholar for a talk and luncheon.  We have enjoyed meeting these fine young people from the Transylvanian tradition of Unitarianism.

(Do you recall that our own partner church minister, Levante Lazar, from Sovata, Transylvania, was here in 2010--2011?)  More later....
Choir Director Search
The UUCM Choir Director Search Committee is looking for an outstanding choir director.  If you know of anyone interested in the position, please refer them to the job listing under the About Us section of the uumarin.org web site.

Book Group November 28
book pile Our UUCM Book Group will NOT meet on the third Wednesday this month, because of conflicts with Thanksgiving gatherings.  Instead, we will meet on the fourth Wednesday, November 28.  Please contact Nani Ranken: 898-8558 or nani@ranken.com for information on the venue.

We will discuss When The Elephants Dance by Tess Uriza Holthe, a novel of survival of Philippine families during the waning days of World War II.

The UUA's "Standing on the Side of Love" public advocacy campaign seeks to harness love's power to stop oppression. In Feb. 2013, UUCM will recognize its third recipient of the "Side of Love" award. Perhaps you know of a person from Marin (possibly, but not necessarily, from our congregation) who exemplifies social justice values of inclusion, diversity, and equality. Deadline for nominations  Dec. 31. Contact figleafjoan@comcast.net - 415-453-6221

UUCM encourages anyone and everyone to reach out and advocate for social justice (economic, environmental, civil) in the wider community. Please invite others to join you, and send photos of your action to the Social Justice Committee.
