Chip's Clips
| | Reverend Chip Wright November, 2012
I don't imagine I am all that different in how I am feeling as I write this than many of you who will read it. October is coming to an end and November will be here before we know it. Along with all the typical things this time of year brings like Thanksgiving, the last days of Fall, November this year will either affirm the leadership that has been guiding this nation for the last three and a half years, or it will turn us again into a well-known direction, one we all experienced for eight years during the previous administrations. I worry all the time these days as the election gets closer about whether I am going to have to gird my loins for more unsustainable exploitation of this land and its people as I did when the previous government was put into office by the Supreme Court. I wish I didn't have to worry about this very difficult prospect. I wish I could just focus on helping our existing government in what ways I can to focus even more on the longer term and to move quicker and with more intent towards sustainability and opportunity for everybody. So these days much of my free time is taken up in worrying, making donations to my candidates, making phone calls to swing states and all the time hope against hope the nation will finally affirm this changing course and the rich possibility it offers us. Hope that we will continue to support this evolution into tomorrow; that we will continue heading towards becoming a nation 'of the people and for the people' holding up and celebrating the whole, not just the few. That the next four years will bring us not only closer to this way of understanding success but establish this direction as the ongoing course for the future reaching beyond political expediency to the truth of what I know in my heart we can be when it is at its best, a wonderful, free, abundant and just nation! November 2012
This fall at UUCM we have enjoyed several highlights, including the Sukkot/Harvest Celebration on Sunday, Oct 7th, UU Revival on Oct 14th and Dia De Los Muertos on Sunday, Oct. 28th! We also launched our Coming of Age program this year. Several of our youth participated in a Coming of Age overnight retreat in Santa Rosa with other UU young people from neighboring North Bay congregations!
Please find photos from the Sukkot/Harvest Celebration on our website. The "gratitude garlands" created by the children are also featured in our hallways this month! As we enter this season of thanksgiving and appreciation, please mark your calendar for these exciting events...

Mill Street shelter, a branch of New Beginnings, provides housing for about 60 people per night. UUCM provides dinner on the first Sunday of each month. If you would like to be a once a month cook, please contact [email protected]. A list will be made and you will be reminded before the day you choose. Aluminum pans for main dishes we need are available in the kitchen. Food should be brought to church - it will be taken to Mill Street. ------------------------------------------ Wellness Dinners: Our last opportunity to serve the homeless is Tuesday, November 20th! Call or email Carol Littrell at 883-9676 or [email protected]
------------------------------------------ The UUA's "Standing on the Side of Love" public advocacy campaign seeks to harness love's power to stop oppression. In Feb. 2013, UUCM will recognize its third recipient of the "Side of Love" award. Perhaps you know of a person from Marin (possibly, but not necessarily, from our congregation) who exemplifies social justice values of inclusion, diversity, and equality. Deadline for nominations Dec. 31. Contact [email protected] - 415-453-6221 ------------------------------------------ If you care about an issue or cause that you want UUCM members to know about, please bring it to our attention at the Social Justice information table at refreshment time. To reserve a date: [email protected] ------------------------------------------ UUCM encourages anyone and everyone to reach out and advocate for social justice (economic, environmental, civil) in the wider community. Please invite others to join you, and send photos of your action to the Social Justice Committee.
