We'll create an altar to welcome our ancestors into the sanctuary.  We invite you to bring a photo or memento of those you wish to remember. Children are welcome to wear their costumes to this service.

 | Car wash tickets fundraiser | | Walt will set up a table in the foyer on  Sunday October 28 as a mini fundraiser with a target to raise $500.  We will be offering 40 tickets to Matt & Jeff's car wash in Novato.  Their full service car wash costs $25 and they will donate half to the UUCM congregation. 40 tickets brings us $500.  Each ticket covers washing the inside, outside and dressing the tires.  They do a great job.  Winter rains are coming so we can be prepared. |
 | Food Donation Barrel | | As the days grow colder and wetter,
the Marin Food Bank grows emptier.
So the UUCM Social Justice Committee
has reinstalled a Food Donation Barrel
where you can just drop in a food item
on your way into the building. Please
  bring non-perishable packaged items
again and again because people get
hungry again and again. Thank you. |

  Book Group November 28
  | | Our UUCM Book Group will NOT meet on the third Wednesday next month, because of conflicts with Thanksgiving gatherings.  Instead, we will meet on the fourth Wednesday, November 28.  Please contact Nani Ranken: 898-8558 or nani@ranken.com for information on the venue.
We will discuss When The Elephants Dance by Tess Uriza Holthe, a novel of survival of Philippine families during the waning days of World War II.  ""Papa explains the war like this," narrates 13-year-old Alejandro as he heads through a series of Japanese barricades and checkpoints." `When the elephants dance, the chickens must be careful.' The great beasts, as they circle one another, shaking the trees and trumpeting loudly, are the Amerikanos and the Japanese as they fight. And our Philippine Islands? We are the small chickens."  Grounded in Philippine myth and culture, the novel is filled with beautiful, allegorical stories told by the story's elders, who try to share wisdom and inspire their captive audience in the midst of gruesome violence."
