This Provider Bulletin is being sent a month early, as we have time-sensitive information about the Young Investigator Award proposal deadline and about the AAP National Conference & Exhibition that we thought you would want to know! Please also take care to check on the section about our QI Project being discontinued.

QI Project to be Discontinued after December 2015;

Materials and MOC Records to be Retained

  • With the overall MOC environment in transition, Reach Out and Read will no longer offer the QI project to providers, effective January 2016.  The current participating cohort will be our last.
  • Materials from the Project will continue to be available in myROR.  Reach Out and Read will also retain providers' MOC/MC-FP/CME records for seven years as required by the certifying Boards; however, webinars and QI data entry into the myROR system will be discontinued.
  • Since first being offered on a pilot basis in 40 Florida practices in 2009, nearly 600 providers in more than 200 practices around the country have successfully completed the Reach Out and Read Quality Improvement (QI) Project for Maintenance of Certification (MOC/MC-FP) and Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit.  Results of the project have been impressive: books given in more than 95% of well visits, accompanied by advice in 93% of visits.
  • Going forward, Reach Out and Read will build on best practices that participating sites have developed through the QI project over the years.  Representatives from a variety of Reach Out and Read affiliate offices are currently contributing to the development of a standard set of program attributes and metrics that will enable participating practices, and the affiliate program staff supporting them, to evaluate and document program quality.
  • Reach Out and Read is grateful to the staff of the Vermont Child Health Improvement Program who contributed their expertise to the development of the QI Project and to the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, whose materials were integral to successful implementation of the Project in so many practices throughout the Reach Out and Read provider network.
  • You may continue to direct questions about the QI Project to  QI@reachoutandread.org.
