We are advocating in Congress for level funding of the Innovative Approaches to Literacy Grant program in Fiscal Year 2016

Innovative Approaches to Literacy is currently the only pot of federal funds for both school libraries and national literacy programs, and we have joined together with several organizations in this effort: the American Library Association, Reading is Fundamental, Save the Children and the Children's Reading Foundation.

We are very pleased to have broad bipartisan support in both the House and Senate for this funding, securing support from 29 Senators and 128 Representatives (see list). The Appropriations subcommittees will now draft their funding bills, and we will keep you posted as the process continues."

Please feel free to reach out to your legislators to thank them for their support! Contact Katie for specific information.

Read this to me, even though I can't talk. Show me the sky, as we go for a walk.
Talk as you work. Talk as we play. I love your voice, and all that you say....

Written by John Hutton, MD, this soft, rhyming story from a baby's point of view with dreamy watercolor illustrations celebrates the beloved, healthy ritual of parent-child reading. It also reinforces recent American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations to begin daily reading with children at birth, to promote bonding, language, attention, and other aspects of development. Read Baby, Every Day promotes shared reading and togetherness, and is perfect in every parent's early library to inspire the next generation of readers.

Dr. John Hutton, has a Reach Out and Read program in Ohio as well as a being a published author and bookstore owner.  To help promote reading aloud and support Reach Out and Read, a portion of each sale of Read Baby, Every Day will go to the Reach Out and Read National Center.  Please visit  here to learn more about ordering Read Baby, Every Day and supporting Reach Out and Read's mission.
