Help Prep Tools & Supplies for Our Next Build, 9/14
As part of our local participation in the annual statewide Habitat for
Humanity Build-a-Thon, we will be moving tools and supplies to our new storage location on Saturday, September 14, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.  Volunteers with trucks also needed.  Sign up to volunteer online and then meet on 9/14 at the ReStore, 700 Manono Street.  See you there!
Building Community Expo/Walk on Sept. 21

Join family and friends for a fun event on Saturday, September 21, starting any time from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Prince Kuhio Plaza.

Hilo Habitat for Humanity, the Hawaii Island REALTORS and General Growth Properties have teamed up to create a Super Saturday home ownership expo and "funDraiser," to support Hilo Habitat for Humanity's affordable homebuilding program.

Unlike many other walks, the Building Community Expo & Walk will not require sponsorships or laps, nor do walkers need to start at a specified time. Instead, walkers will pay a flat $10 registration fee, which enters them into a prize drawing. If they talk with home specialists such as home inspectors, insurance providers, alternative energy providers, and others, they have more chances to win prizes of various values.  Drawing winners need not be present to win.

Walkers may register online with a debit/credit card or with cash on the day of the event. Approximately 500 walkers are expected to participate, raising approximately $5,000. Tshirts will also be available for sale on the day of the event for $10 each.

Painting, Weed Clearing & More on Sept. 14, 21, 28

Mahalo to our construction volunteers, who continue to make progress on the Hawaiian Beaches  renovation home.  On Saturday, September 14, 21, 28 we'll be working on the property from 8-12 noon.  Come help us continue painting and clear the weeds, which is an ongoing concern.  If you prefer, share your cooking talents and provide lunch or be a site host and greet, connect, and assist volunteers.  If you have your own tools or some to share, feel free to bring them.  Sign up online to volunteer.

Volunteer Judah Daggett
Judah Daggett:

Volunteer of the Month

This month, we'd like to feature Judah Daggett, who builds wooden display racks for our ReStore, picks up donations, and handles front desk sales at the ReStore.

"It's all about building.  I've been in construction my whole life and I enjoy helping the public, so I give advice or knowledge if I can," Judah said. "What's important, though, is wanting to help.  Anyone can come volunteer and I'm always learning," he added.

ReStore manager Rex Lauer has been very grateful to have Judah's help and cheerful friendliness for customers.

If you're interested in volunteering for construction or at the ReStore for sales, sorting, or pickups, sign up online today!
