WHAT MAKES HOUND & GATOS FOOD UNIQUE?

Hound & Gatos makes quality, natural, canned food for dogs and cats. One of the unique features that no other company currently employs, is that every batch gets DNA tested.

What does this mean? It means, when it says duck ON the can you are for sure getting duck IN the can. With an increasing number of stories about dishonest pet food companies using cheaper proteins in place of more expensive ones and lying on the label, the Hound and Gatos DNA testing is a process to be excited about!

In 2014, Hound & Gatos won "Most Trusted Pet Food" from The Truth About Pet Food. The Truth About Pet Food is known to be an advocate for truthful labelling and to uncover issues about ingredients going into our pet's food.

The first ingredient on all Hound & Gatos labels is a meat source such as beef, chicken or fish. Their products are made from human-grade protein sources and are manufactured in the USA.

No bi-products, fillers, inferior ingredients, or artificial preservatives are added into their products. All cans are formulated to be full meals.

Proteins for dogs and cats include: beef, chicken, salmon, rabbit, lamb, pork and trout.

CANINE INFLUENZA - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Canine influenza has been in the news lately, especially in midwest USA, where there has been a recent outbreak. Here are some facts about it.

The CDC defines canine influenza (also known as dog flu) as "a contagious respiratory disease in dogs caused by specific Type A influenza viruses known to infect dogs." One strain may be passed to cats.

Symptoms of infection include cough, runny nose, lethargy and fever. Up to 20% of dogs may be asymptomatic. Severe complications such as pneumonia or death can occur in rare cases. Dog flu can occur any time of year and recovery time is usually a few days.

Infection is spread by coughing, sneezing or through touching of objects such as toys or water bowls.

The good news? No reported cases in Canada. And as with any outbreak in the human or pet
world, perspective on risk is a good idea!

No matter what viruses are circulating around, keep your pet's immune system healthy by feeding a healthy, species appropriate diet (especially raw), adequate exercise, reduced emotional and environmental stress and immune support supplements where necessary (e.g.: probiotics).
