There is value in brokenness. You have to possess special "vision" to see it in a world that celebrates only strength and power. God brings beauty out of brokenness. For a plant to rise from the soil, the seed must be broken. For a baby chick to experience life, the shell must be broken. A thoroughbred horse cannot win races until it's been broken. Until you have been broken, you are of no use!

Brokenness is the work of God by which He strips us of self-sufficiency so that the character of Christ may shine through us. Brokenness is not the same as tragedy. Tragedy may or may not draw you closer to God but brokenness always does. A broken person is one that realizes that God blocked every exit, removed every prop and took away every convenience so we can be stripped of self...to the extent we have no strength on our own. It is when you realize that God is all you have and God is all you need!

I once heard someone say "God allows us to hit rock bottom in order to discover He's the rock at the bottom." The rock at the bottom is meant to break you so the life and beauty inside you can begin to shine forth. Brokenness is not supposed to make you a wimp, or give you inferiority complex and low self-esteem. On the other hand, it is to make you strong..."for whenever I am weak, then I'm strong" (2 Cor. 12:10)

If God is trying to break you, don't run from it. The earlier you embrace it, the better for you. God will do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to break us so our lives can be lived for Him alone. At the end though you will experience a sweet surrender and an indescribable relationship with your Father that makes it all worth it!
