Dear Lake Travis High School Community,

We are full swing into the second half of the school year, and we truly appreciate all the ways you have contributed to our wonderful school community. I would like to take this opportunity to share what your PTO board and chairpersons have been doing and still plan to do this year.

Thanks to your time and your donations, we have already:
  • appreciated our teachers and staff with an August cookout, a September potato bar lunch, an October breakfast bar, Thanksgiving pies, a Holiday dinner buffet, and a January "Souper" lunch;
  • assisted our school administration by providing extra hands for book distribution and collection, schedule distribution, the College Fair, school store, the special services recordings, PSAT and STAAR testing monitoring;
  • celebrated our students with the Homecoming Parade, Halloween costume contest, and Fall Formal ticket sales;
  • supported our community with the LTISD Student Directory publication and with "Welcome to LTHS" gatherings for our newcomers;
  • helped "Empower LT" with our September presentation of Cyber Crimes/Safety and our October discussion about Power in Relationships and the Teenage Brain;
  • and committed funding of up to $18K of Wish List Requests to benefit the LTHS campus.

And there is more to come.

We have two FANTASTIC speakers planned in the Empower LT series - Feb 24th is Coach for America Joe Ehrmann and April 7th is a return engagement with Dr. Crystal Collier. These presentations are open to EVERYONE. Both events are at 6:30pm in the PAC. We have another coffee/breakfast planned for our families who just moved here mid-year. We have a "Love" lunch, breakfast bar, salad bar, and four days of Teacher Appreciation week treats for our campus personnel. We will be requesting on-site support for student testing dates in late March and early May. We still have some Wish List items that have gone unfunded. If you haven't donated yet to our No Hassle Fundraiser, click here for the paper form or the PayPal link ... it is never too late to support our campus.

Spring is also when we plan for 2016-2017 - electing new officers, appointing new committee chairs, assessing our cash position, and approving a working budget for the incoming PTO Board and Chairs. All this activity must be conducted, reviewed and/or approved by you, our membership. This conveniently leads me to our
Nominations Process and our General Membership Meeting TOMORROW.

We will approve our nominating committee, hear about proposed bylaw changes, and learn more about the LeaderForLife program introduced last week.

Sadly, it is also our last meeting with Principal Kim Brents. She has done so much for this campus over her 8-year tenure. We have enjoyed working collaboratively with her to create a positive learning environment for our kids. Please join us to hear her brief campus update and to wish her well. We will have some refreshments there, but feel free to bring some to share as well. :-) I hope you can join us for this brief meeting. Do plan to arrive early so you have time to find parking and check in at the office.
