Marquette County Brew Pubs

Marquette is almost as well known for our brew pubs as we are for our scenery and recreation activities. A cold beer after a long day of riding, hiking, biking, or skiing is a great way to end a day of adventure.

With four brew pubs, all located in Marquette County, you are sure to find a place and beer you love.

Marquette's first nano brewery, offers a variety of brews in their cozy tap room, located on 3rd Street. Located in a small house, which is now their brewery and tasting room, Blackrock's has a neighborly feel where people can meet, play chess or debate politics.

Blackrock's offers a wide variety of beers and rotates them regularly, making it easy to sample all different styles. A current list of available beers can be found on their website or Facebook page.

Although they don't serve food, you will not go hungry. Located by several local resturants, food can be brought in or ordered.

Frequent visitors can purchase a mug by local artist Ryan Dalman and receive special offers. They will even store and clean it for you!

Ore Dock Brewing Company

The Ore Dock Brewing Company is Marquette's newest microbrewery having opened their doors Memorial Day Weekend 2012. On Labor Day Weekend 2012 they had the grand opening of their upstairs space now called "Community Space." Their motto, "Where craft beer meets community," is the basis for great weekly events where they partner with other community businesses.

When you stop at the Ore Dock Brewing Co., be sure to check out their locally made specialty furniture. Most of the wood they used was reclaimed local barn wood and wood that was used as a two story ramp in their building that once served as a car dealership. NMU Alumni may also notice that many of the chairs are recycled from the Olson Library on Northern's Campus, about two miles away. If you look hard enough, you will find bike parts incorporated into the furniture as well.

They have the storage for 10 beers on tap and have been at peak production since opening their doors, with much thanks to community support. Their brewer, Nick Vancourt, is specializing in Belgium style beers and his goal is to make them true to style. Stop in for a tour or to try one of their local brews, including their Acer Rebrum, a seasonal beer that they describe as smoky and malty.

Vierling

The Vierling Building has been a focal point in downtown Marquette for over 125 years. In 1883 Martin Vierling owned and operated a respectable "Gentlemen's Saloon" that included a "Sample Room" to cater to female clientele. They prospered until 1929 when prohibition closed its doors.

On January 1, 1985 the caf at this location was purchased by its current owners, Kristi and Terry Doyle. After nine months of restoration, they reopened as the Historic Vierling Saloon and Sample Room. Paying close attention to the historic detail, the Vierling kept the original one hundred year old oak bar and original stained glass and oil paintings from Martin Vierling's collection.

The Vierling offers an extensive lunch and dinner menu, including their popular Lake Superior Whitefish, to pair with your favorite brew. Chumley, the Vierling's self-taught brewer, has been brewing beers since they opened their doors. Be sure to try their signature beer, Blueberry Wheat, which is topped off with fresh blueberries. If that doesn't appeal to you, then try one of their other 9 beers, including three Ales and two Wheat's you can find on tap anytime, plus 4 specialty beers. If you like variety, all 10 beers can be sampled for a set price.

The Vierling's original Sample Room can be rented out for meetings and parties and you can take the taste of the Vierling home with you by purchasing one of their liters or growlers to go.
