There is an added bonus to raising your inner child to adulthood. When you are a conscious, aware, integrated adult, the inner child actions of others are not nearly as damaging. You can address them from the calm, centered place of the wise adult, often helping the other person's inner child begin to heal their own wounding without them even knowing what you are doing!
