WELCOME TO MADERA COUNTY . . . California's Gateway to Yosemite
August in Madera County...

Did you know the giant sequoia is the world's most massive tree, and arguably the largest living organism on Earth? These magnificent trees are found right here in our back yard. Giant sequoias occur naturally in only one place on Earth-the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California. You will find groves of giant sequoias in the Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon National Park, Yosemite National Park, and also in the Sierra National Forest including Nelder Grove found along the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway. Truly a sight you can only see in the majestic mountains of California.

2014 is filled with events and activities honoring the 150th Anniversary of the Yosemite Grant Act.  Come celebrate with us!

Sierra Art Trails - Annual Open Studio Tour

The Central Sierra has always attracted artists. Poets, writers, painters and photographers have been drawn to the majestic landscapes and natural wonders of the region for nearly 200 years.  Twelve years ago the value of this cultural treasure was realized and this was the start of the Sierra Art Trails .

The Annual Open Studio Tour provides the opportunity to meet the artists in person, visit studios, ask questions, view demonstrations, and see the creative process at work. You may enter a studio and find a watercolorist demonstrating a technique, watch a woodworker turning a bowl, or see a ceramic artist working with clay. The show also offers a unique opportunity to purchase original fine arts and crafts directly from the people who create them.
