June 30, 1864, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant Act, establishing Yosemite Valley and Mariposa Grove as the first protected wild land for all time. In addition, this grant marked the first California State Park.

The inaugural Yosemite Festival on June 28th in Oakhurst, 15 miles from Yosemite's south entrance, features six exciting regions - Art Pavilion, History Center, Adventure Land, Center Stage, Food & Beverage Garden, and Vendor Trail.

 

Half Dome Art Pavilion celebrates the beauty and history of the art of Yosemite. 

 

Yosemite Falls History Center takes you back in time with the evolution of Yosemite Exhibit, Native American culture, the National Park Service and more. 

 

El Capitan Adventure Land celebrates the wildlife, nature & experiences of Yosemite, with fun for all ages.

 

Yosemite Valley Center Stage features educational programs & entertainment throughout the day.

Join the communities of Madera County: California's Gateway to Yosemite at the inaugural Yosemite Festival. This year's festival honors the 150th-Anniversary signing of the Yosemite Grant Act by President Abraham Lincoln on June 30, 1864. The Grant protected Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of Big Trees, creating the foundation for the National Park System.

June 30, 2014 150th Anniversary Events throughout Yosemite National Park - including a "Shared Heritage Fair" in front of the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center.          
Bass Lake Certified Farmer's Market

This event has proven to be one of the most  popular in the mountain area and has beeeagerly awaited by many.

 

ReturninVendors

Anchors for the event return for the fourth consecutive year. Included are Shasky Farms of LeGrandSunnFarms of Clovis anRosendahl Farms of Tollhouse. These are three of the most coveted farmers' market vendors in the statand promise to deliver wonderful quality producas they have in the past. Bass Lake is one of theifavorite markets and they feewelcomed as a part of the community.

 

Other Returnees

Also returning are Blossom TraiHoney, Jammin Jams , BluebirTraiFarm, and The Happy Baguette  All are local vendors and great assets to the market and community. Marcia once again provides wonderful music.

New addition for 2014 is Farm Girls Natural Homemade Products. We are very glad to have

this new hometowbusiness represented at our market.

4th Annual South Shore Car & Boat Show
at Miller's Landing 
Sunday, June 1st
 

Ladies and Gentlemen start your engines...Miller's Landing Resort hosts its 4th Annual South Shore Car & Boat Show on Sunday, June 1.  Classic cars and fast boats gather once again, with 50 cars and at least 20 boats in the water. 

 

In addition to the cars and boats, there will be music, a 50-50 drawing, "cackle-fest," and of course, plenty of good food including the famous Miller's Burger for purchase. 

 

Attendance is free for spectators. 

 

Anyone interested in entering a car or boat can contact Michelle at 642-3633. It costs $25 to enter, with proceeds going to FEAT; Families for Effective Autism Treatment. 

 

Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau and Yosemite Southgate Hotel presents the third in a series of six slide-show presentations.  Each event centers around the history of our Sierra Nevada mountains.  Adventurer Tony Krizan shares his 30-plus years of hiking the mountains surrounding Yosemite National Park.  Tony also writes a column in the local Sierra Star newspaper featuring his hiking accomplishments.  His two recent books on hiking will be available at this showing.

 

At 7:30 on Saturday evening Tony reveals in photos the forgotten history associated with "The Old Wawona Stagecoach Road" completed in 1876.  In 1933 when the Wawona Tunnel was completed, this historic road was abandoned.  Stop by on Saturday June 21st and witness this forgotten part of Yosemite's history.


This exhibition lecture series will run monthly from now through September 2014, in honor of the Yosemite Grant 150th Anniversary. Yosemite Southgate Hotel & Suites is located on Highway 41 in Oakhurst. The presentation is open to the public and is free of charge. Refreshments will be provided.

Gallery Yosemite and Timberline Gallery in Oakhurst honor the Yosemite Grant 150th Anniversary:

 

Gallery Yosemite is a new venue for creative artists to express their love for Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.  Timberline Gallery has been a community-centered art institution for 28 years and will present two shows in 2014, dedicated to the grandeur of Yosemite.  Both galleries have partnered to honor the Yosemite Grant 150th anniversary with eight months of artistic learning series providing speakers and classes for visitors as well as locals.

 

Join us for our Artist Learning Series - to be held the 2nd Saturday of each month from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Coarsegold Classic Car Show Father's Day Weekend!  

 

The Coarsegold Classic Car Show, an annual event which debuted in 2008, is held each summer on the green at the Coarsegold Historic Village along Highway 41 in Coarsegold, California. All funds raised from the CCCS go to benefit Manna House, a local outreach and assistance center for families in need.

 

There is room for approximately 120 classic cars to show at this event. Space fills up fast so register early

 

 

Father's Day at Wawona Hotel

Coarsegold Historical Society Presents Music in the Meadow - Saturday, June 7

The 2014 Music  in the Meadow will be held the 7th of June 2014 , at the Coarsegold Historical Museum. This year's event features "all music, all the time" with two bands playing throughout the afternoon. Featured performers are the returning "String Bandits" who play lively bluegrass music, and the "Morgan Canyon Band" who perform "mellow rock" from the 50's, 60's, and '70's.  This fundraising event runs from 12:00 to 4:00 and features local museums.  Admission is only $10. Food and beverage (including beer and wine) will be available for your enjoyment (not included in ticket price). In addition, there will be a silent auction and a 50/50 drawing. Docents will be available for museum tours. Bring a chair or blanket, and enjoy a lovely afternoon surrounded by history and bathed in fun music.
