It only seems like yesterday that we welcomed in the warmth of summer, or even the new year. Now 2012 is nearly over as we say hello to November. A month of celebrations, holiday gatherings and more.

Fasi Estate Winery is the newest winery along the Madera Wine Trail

 

The Madera Vintners Association's family wineries are proud to present the Madera Wine Trail's "Holiday Spirit Weekend" event on November 10 and 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Taste award-winning wines and get into the holiday spirit on the Wine Trail. Two new wineries are on the Trail for this special event - guests can enjoy visiting 12 wineries on Holiday Spirit Weekend!

 

Sample a wide variety of local award-winning wines, from aperitif to dessert, old-world styles to the latest in wine-making technology, all from the winemakers themselves. On this special weekend, there will also be holiday gift shopping, local art, live music and delicious food available.  

   

Madera Wine Trail Passport Glasses are available for $35 from any participating winery both days of the event, and is your pass to free wine-tasting on the Trail all weekend long. Pre-sale tickets are available for $25

Crab Cakes new location
Popular Oakhurst restaurant Crab Cakes has reopened in its new, much larger location.

The move has increased the dining area and, perhaps more importantly, parking, for the many fans of the restaurant who come to enjoy fresh seafood as well as excellent steaks and more.

The new location is 49271 Golden Oak Loop near the world-famous Talking Bear.

An upstairs bar is slated for a New Year's opening.

Madera County Arts Council
 

The Madera County Arts Council and Circle Gallery  present the 6th annual Holiday Art Affair on Saturday, November 17  from 10 until 4.  

This outdoor festival features 30 artists and fine crafters selling original works. Valley Pistachio Country Store will be joining us this year selling nuts, candies, dried fruits, jams and other gourmet food products.  


Featured this year will be Karen Adler, author and educator, along with illustrator Tawn Morrison. The Mighty Pomegranate along with the Adler Animal Anthology series will be for sale.

Madera Mayor Stars in Viral Video to Promote
Pomegranate Festival

  Pomegranate Rock

As the second annual Madera Pomegranate Festival draws near on November 3, Madera Mayor Brett Frazier starred in a viral video to help promote his city's status as The Heard of Pomegranate County.

 

The video, a parody of LMFAO's Party Rock, is called Pomegranate Rock. It was filmed over the course of a day at popular attractions in and around Madera.

The second annual Madera Pomegranate Festival takes place Saturday, November 3, at the Madera Municipal Airport. There will be vendors, kids' activities, cooking demonstrations and the Pomegranate Grenade Launch.

 

The festival wraps up the week-long celebration that started last week, including a golf tournament Friday, dinner at The Vineyard Restaurant Thursday and much more. Go to www.pomegranatefestival.com to learn more.

Pathways is a Sierra Art Trails Special Exhibit - November 10 to December 9,  2012, with a Gala Reception open to the public on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Stellar Gallery in Oakhurst CA.

 

"Pathways" ifocuses on the choices we make and the paths we take. This exhibit is intended to draw attention to "Pathways" both literally and conceptually. Read more here.

 

Pathways is produced by Sierra Art Trails, a California based non-profit arts organization dedicated to supporting artists and artisans, promoting art education, and benefiting our communities through cultural tourism.

Golden Chain Theatre

The Golden Chain Theatre debuts their fall melodrama starting Saturday, November 3.

Titled "It Was a Dark and Stormy Night" by Tim Kelly, the show is guaranteed to be fun for all ages as attendees are encouraged to cheer for the hero and boo the villain.

Show Times:  Saturdays 7 pm and Sundays 2 pm

General Admission $12, Senior (55 & over) $10, Student (13-18 years) $8,

Back by popular demand, Bill Coates spins tales of the rowdy days 100 years ago in Oakhurst, when lumbermen, farmers and miners moved into our valley and, along with the Indians, began to leave their footprint on our local history.
