Thank You, Huntington Historical Society
Have you visited the Huntington Historical Society website lately? You can find the whole year's worth of events right up front, so you don't have to miss any of them!
For over 100 years, this Society -- which has an interesting history all its own -- has protected and interpreted the rich history of our town and the central Long Island region. The Society now maintains five national register historic properties- two as house museums, one for a gallery and display space for exhibiting selected portions of their collection. The fourth houses their administration office and extensive Resource Center and Archives. The fifth, The Adams House, is on the property of the Kissam House and is not open to the public. The Society shares the legacy it is preserving by sponsoring educational festivals, a lecture series, school programs and summer educational programs.
We at Leadership are grateful because, year after year, they have gone above and beyond to offer their treasured spaces, their time-honed wisdom and their general good spirits to our Flagship Program and other endeavors. Thank you!

Community Conversation - THIS WEDNESDAY, March 13th!
We invite you to join the Community Conversations event, "Growing Community: Who are we? How do we live together?" on Wed., March 13, 2013 at 7 p.m. This event is open to the public.
Representatives from Bethpage Federal Credit Union, the Rauch Foundation and the Town Of Huntington will lead a lively conversation moderated by Michael White from Anthony E. Core Law Firm, on any questions or issues the public offers.
The questions will be focused on how we can work together to improve our community and economic outlook. Helen Crosson, Director of the Cold Spring Harbor Library, said, "The whole idea is to identify issues for life, family and the future of the town."
Community Conversations is a series of three seminars presented by the Town of Huntington Libraries and Leadership Huntington geared towards raising public awareness and encouraging community engagement. The third event in the series, "Suburbs for the next generation: What do we value most," will take place on May 4, 2013 at the Northport-East Northport Public Library.
Click here for the full-sized flyer Over 90 people came out in the rain for our first event, which featured a viewing of Suburban America: Problems and Promise, followed by fascinating and informative discussion with the Community, the filmmaker Ron Rudaitis, Eric Alexander of Vision Long Island and Dr. Nathalia Rogers of Dowling College American Communities Institute. You can see Part I of the video here. and Part II here. A summary of the conversation will be available on the Community Conversations Facebook Page today. That event looked at suburbia and Huntington in a very global way. This next one will get more specific, questioning our assumptions about who we are as a town, and how we live together. The Town and the Long Island Index have provided some great resources, and our panelists are fantastic. This should be a great conversation! Huntington Station Community Fest
Celebrate the revitalization efforts for downtown Huntington Station by joining Huntington Station's first ever Community Fest! Hosted by Renaissance Downtowns and Source the Station, the event will take place in a heated tent on the municipal parking lot that will one day become a vibrant, bustling place where the community will gather! Community Fest will include children's games, art and craft vendors, community service information, food, music and tons of fun!

Recently, the Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation worked with Steve Donohue to raise money to help cancer's youngest victims by supporting St. Baldrick's Foundation. They are happy to announce that they raised over $10,000 for this very worthy cause! Thank you to all who helped make this happen!!!

John McNally Tapped to Lead Phase II of the Energeia Partnership
A kindred spirit to what Leadership Huntington does locally, the Energeia Partnership does regionally; bringing together diverse, ethical leaders from Long Island's public, private and not-for-profit sectors to better understand Long Island's most complex issues: education, institutional racism, poverty and the working poor, land use, energy, transportation, healthcare and media/social networking.
Now, with over 200 program graduates in their network (many of whom are also Leadership Grads) they are ready for action. Their phase II will involve creating and facilitating opportunities for Energeia Partners to work together to address some of the most pressing issues on Long Island. The first step was to find a director. We think they found thert perfect match.
Many may be familiar with John Mcally through his long tenure with the Rauch Foundation, as well as through his work with the LI Neighborhood Network and the Central Pine Barrens Joint Planning and Policy Commission. A resident of Long Beach, John also recently offered a face and a sense of direction to those seeking to help region in the immediate aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. We wish him the best in this new phase and can't wait to see what he does next!

Community Yard Sale
Saturday June 8, 2013 at Manor Farm, 210 Manor Road, Huntington from 10 am to 4 pm. Rain date Sunday June 9.
For a $20 donation, you can participate in the yard sale with a 10' by 10' portion of the field to sell your own no-longer wanted household items. We'll take care of 10' by 10' yard placements, parking and traffic management, and advertising.
If you have sale items, but don't want a space, you may donate them for our table to help raise funds for the organization's programs. A space reservation form is on our website.
Volunteers wanted to help! We need people to set up, price, sell and clean up. We also need people to help direct traffic in the parking area. Set up/volunteers needed from 7:30 am to 5 pm
Green Living Seminars
Held at the Melville Branch of the Half Hollow Hills Library. This library, 510 Sweet Hollow Rd, directly across from the Sunquam Elementary School (between Rt 110 and Old Country Rd).
WEDNESDAY April 10 at 7 pm: Beyond the 3s (reduce, reuse, recycle)
Is your trash driving you crazy? We'll take a closer look at what's in your trash and ways you can simplify your life. And we'll examine those standard 3Rs and see how we can move beyond them. Bring any trash you have questions about or are concerned about as well as your recycling calendar and we'll help work through the issues.
Annual Fundraising Auction
Starflower Experiences' annual fundraising auction will be Saturday April 27 at 7 pm at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 22 E 18th St, Huntington Station. Join us for this fun event. Many items will be listed on our website.
What Laurie Farber of Starflower Experiences does on a shoestring budget is incredible. Unfortunately, they experienced a great tragedy when Sweet Hollow Hall caught fire last December. Their Earthkeepers Training Centre and Rangers Training Camp building is gone: Any help in replacing what they need and moving their programs to Manor Farm is greatly appreciated. Multinational Cultural Festival
Prafulba "Pinky" Vaghela of the Class of 2012 hopes you will join her for a Multinational Cultural Festival sponsored by the Asian-American Cultural Circle of Unity and co-sponsored by the Town of Huntington and Farmingdale State College.
When: Saturday, April 27th from 11am-4pm
Where: Roosevelt Hall, Farmingdale State College
The festival is an outgrowth of the Asian-American Cultural Festivals over the last six years that drew thousands of attendees. The event has now grown to showcase the culture and traditions of countries from North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Come enjoy eye-catching cultural booths, a food court, live traditional and contemporary music and dance, art exhibits, corporate and vendor displays, a stage performance and raffle drawings.
The festivals were covered in articles in Newsday, Anton publications, Home Shopper, North Shore Today, AsianinNY, News 12, Verizon Fios and several ethnic newspapers and online publications.

An Extraordinary Volunteer Opportunity: PLEASE! Help Continue Sandy Clean Up
For over 15 weeks now! Vision Long Island has been organizing physical clean-up crews to assist local communities damaged by heavy flooding. Thanks to them and others coordinating help, many impacted by Sandy have helped. Much work still needs to be done. We know it's hard, but any time you can donate is greatly appreciated. Specific locations and times are posted on the Vision Long Island facebook page. When we see these, we will share them on our page as well. Vision educates Albany in addition to its very direct grass-roots work. In our next edition, we look to talk about the Long Island Lobby Coaltion - an extraordinary group put together by Vision Long Island comprised of local businesses and organizations who have coalesced around a straight-forward legislative agenda to help our government officials understand the the Long Island's infrastructure and other needs to recover today, and grow for a prosperous tomorrow. They just went to Albany to talk to our State Officials about it. A lot of that focused on Sandy this year, but there's more to it...

The Town of Huntington - in conjunction with the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce, the Huntington Business Improvement District, the Town of Huntington Economic Development Corporation, and the Paramount Theater - has commissioned a parking study for the Huntington Village / downtown area.
