Upcoming Workshops: Interfaith and MPAR
Come to expand, broaden, engage, and interact with Interfaith
Our panel is complete, the picnic is prepared, affiliates are registering...all we need is your participation! Habitat is committed to put God's love into action by building with a community, not merely for it. The mission to encourage interfaith work stems from a desire to increase capacity and awareness of our work within all communities.

Free Workshop Registration - October 13, 2015

Mortgage laws and Habitat policies on house pricing and more have changed effective October 3, 2015. These changes must be made early in the process, from the very beginning of homeowner selection, so don't wait to learn. These new laws effect affiliates of ALL sizes, and ALL affiliates have had questions on implementation.

We are here to help. Habitat Texas is working to find mortgage origination solutions for you, but it's important for you to know what these changes are as there are civil and criminal penalties for noncompliance. We've put together a team to bring the latest to you. Many affiliate leaders are attending multiple sessions, which is a great idea.

Texas Department of Housing & Community Affairs Workshops
State of Texas
Habitat affiliates in Texas frequently partner with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) through the Texas Bootstrap Loan Program and the Amy Young Barrier Removal Program. We want to let you know that TDHCA has announced a series of workshops for all interested organizations through October on both programs across Texas.
Funding Opportunities

We can help your affiliate write or review grants, too. Just ask us about it, and be sure to let us know if you are successful with a grant you see here.

USDA 502 Loan Program Eligibility

Texas' Rural Development Department in the US Department of Agriculture has set aside $1 million for Habitat affiliates in Texas in its 502 Loan Program. If you are a rural affiliate, contact Habitat Texas for helping in applying for these funds on behalf of your partner families. There are some changes that may need to be made when you advertise for potential partner families if you use the 502 program, so contact us before you begin advertising. One more thing...Habitat Texas worked in this past legislative session on a bill that affected affiliates who use the 502 program, passing a law effective September 1, 2015, so affiliates are SAFE Act exempt even if they use the 502 loan program. Great news!

Just a reminder that the Capacity Building 2015 Applications will be available next week.  If your affiliate is planning on applying for: 1) Executive Director; 2) Volunteer Coordinator; 3) Faith Relations; 4) Family Services Manager; 5) Community Outreach; 6) NR Coordinator; or 7) ReStore Manager, now is the time to email affiliate contact information by clicking here.

The Texas Veterans Commission will be posting the RFA (Request for Application) for the upcoming Housing 4 Texas Heroes grant period this September on its website for funding on July 1, 2016. The Housing 4 Texas Heroes grant has been changed to allow the grantee to also assist Veterans with a mortgage, utility assistance, home repairs or home modifications to accommodate disabilities.
