Eye of Horus Reviews

Greetings!

Happy snow melt. At least here in Minnesota, we are seeing the first signs of spring, even before the Equinox. To help heat things up, we are featuring Cinnamon in this newsletter. It's often thought to be a winter spice, but it has many uses year round, and some of us just love a sprinkle in our coffee or tea, or to burn as an incense. We give you a little bit of the lore and a couple options from the Eye.

We're also thrilled to let everyone know that ghost hunter and psychic Bobby Sullivan will be reading at the Eye every Wednesday, and we wanted to introduce him in this newsletter.

This weekend, Eye of Horus will be at the Paganicon conference in St Louis Park, in addition to being open all weekend at the store. We will be carrying the books for most of the Authors who will be on panels at the convention (or presenting workshops and rituals). Just check out the dealers room on the first floor below the programming rooms. In addition, the Eye has a room of it's own we're calling MysticU - so matriculate on over to Suite 231! We will be celebrating with refreshments every night, and on Saturday we have several things planned, as detailed below.

If Paganicon isn't your thing, we do have a full weekend at our store in Minneapolis, as well. We'll see you here or there.

Blessed Be, Walk in Wisdom and all that Jazz,

Jane the Scribe

Paganicon is this weekend!
March 14-16

Eye of Horus is proud to be a sponsor and the official bookseller for Paganicon, joining over 20 other vendors in the dealers room. We will also have a hospitality suite with events throughout the day on Saturday . . . just look for "MysticU" in Suite 231  for

Aura Photos & Psychic Readings
Wednesday Evenings with Bobby Sullivan

Bobby Sullivan, Psychic Readings and Aura Photography
Bobby Sullivan
Have you gotten an Aura Photo yet? How about an in-depth psychic reading? Now every Wednesday at the Eye, you can do both with Bobby Sullivan! Nothing about his quick wit and laid back approach speaks of his unusual gifts...

Look a little closer, and you'll find that Bobby Sullivan ventured down a road that has taken him a long way from where he started. After a long career as a senior executive in the Minneapolis advertising industry, Sullivan chose a path which led him to develop the intuitive and healing abilities he possessed from an early age.

In 1998, Bobby signed up for a class taught by well-known author Echo Bodine. He says, "Meeting Echo for the first time was like seeing a long-lost friend. We quickly became close, and after a year of being her student, she asked me to work along side her as a teaching assistant."

In addition to his Psychic Readings, Bobby is known for his Aura Photos in which he interprets the auras of his clients he photographs with his Aura imaging equipment. "It is really fun for people to actually see how what is happening in their lives can show up in their Auras."

Live at the Eye
A Concert Series in the Inner Sanctum

Live at the Eye 2014 Concert Series Launches

Eye of Horus is thrilled to announce our concert series, Live at the Eye, for 2014. Expect to see a number of local musicians, but also some exceptional national artists. We've hosted individual concert events in the past in the Inner Sanctum and since music is an integral part of spiritual practice, we wanted to expand on the kinds of good vibrations here at the Eye by offering a regular concert series. There are currently five acts confirmed. (Click here to see the full line up.) Although all the acts are unique, you will see themes of myth, nature, and magic expressed to some degree by all of them. The Live at the Eye concert series starts in April with a lineup of performers, so you three for the price of one.

Crow Call, Ellie Bryan and Sister Species Live at the Eye

Friday, April 25th, 6:30-9pm - Click here to Get Tickets

Crow Call, Ellie Bryan plus Sister Species
April 25th - Tickets $10 in advance, $15 at the Door

Crow Call is Ellie Bryan and Peter Ruddy, a folk duo from south Minneapolis that combines traditional Folk/Americana genres with minor chords and subtle metal influences. On the 5-string banjo and 12-string acoustic guitar they perform dark originals that draw influences from ancient mythology and personal experiences, alongside old-time traditional songs, blurring the dichotomy of the old and the new; the traditional and the modern. Together they write deep, thought provoking music that transports the listener to personal place, as well as up-tempo traditional songs that transport the listener back in time. Check out their Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/crowcallmpls

Sheath and Knife
Sheath and Knife by Ellie Bryan
After Crow Call and Ellie Bryan perform their sets, Sister Species will take the stage, or rather the floor, since this is an intimate venue and there isn't a stage. You can find them on facebook as well, at facebook.com/sisterspecies Sister Species is comprised of:
Abby Kastrul- vocals, guitar
Emily Kastrul- vocals, accordion, piano, pandeiro
Green Bouzard-violin, chorus
Henry Spruth- bass, chorus
Stephen Gregg- percussion, chorus This alchemical mix of folk musicians will swiftly sweep you off your feet with their sweet harmonies. Sister Species shrewdly blends both classically-trained and self-taught musicians into a swirl of fluid folk and catchy riffs, carried on the haunting, floating, and satisfyingly full harmonies of the Kastrul sisters.

The Magic of Cinnamon
It's for more than candy or cooking

This common spice is used for all kinds of good things. Reddish brown in color, cinnamon is associated with the element of fire, the sun and the God Apollo. As such we think it is ideal to bring in the spring, and well, all good things.

It is definitely a hottie - it is said to fire up the male libido; attract luck, money and love; and is a great smelling herb to purify a space, especially a healing space. More than four thousand years ago, the Chinese wrote about Cinnamon for Healing. Old folk lore advises to sprinkle ground cinnamon in cabinets to discourage bugs.  Modern science is discovering all the good that cinnamon can do, including helping to regulate blood sugar. Though, as with any herb, it should be used in moderation, a little goes a long way, and although it is good for an upset stomach, large amounts are to be avoided during pregnancy.

One of the great things about Cinnamon, is that it is easy to come by, so you can add it to a potpourri quite easily, or add a pinch to the melted wax of  a votive or tea light candle. But if you want the scent to bless a room, nothing is better than incense. We have a number of options available, and we're highlighting a couple in this issue.

Cinnamon Cone Incense
Tulasi ~ India

Cinnamon Incense Cones
Cinnamon Incense Cones
Why settle for cinnamon powder on a wooden stick when you can get a solid cone of incense?  For the times when you really want to fill a room with scent, cone incense is awesome!

Offering the spicy fragrance that we all know and love, Tulasi Cinnamon incense cones can be burned to attract love and wealth, or to simply imbue your living space with the fragrance of cinnamon.

Each box of 15 incense cones comes with a small metal burner which should be placed on a heat safe dish or surface. We often use a small bowl filled with sand.  Just light the tip of the incense cone and burn until the incense starts to glow, then carefully blow out the flame. At just $1.95 for a box, you can't go wrong!

Kyo-nishiki - a Cinnamon Blend
(Kyoto Autumn Leaves by Shoyeido ~ India)

Kyoto Autumn Leaves
Sandalwood, Cinnamon, Patchouli, Benzoin and Spices
It may seem strange to burn an autumn incense for spring, but this is an rich and warming scent which also includes Sandalwood as a primary ingredient, so it is a supreme blessing for any space, but especially a healing space, yoga studio or anywhere there is active meditation. Like all japanese incense, these sticks are solid incense, without a wood core. They can be burned in any stick holder or in a bowl of sand.

Created to inspire one's inner spirit, this affordable fragrance contains sandalwood and a touch of cinnamon. Kyo-nishiki (Kyoto Autumn Leaves) is just one of a wide selection of traditional Japanese scents, practical and easy to use everyday, for any occasion. That's why it's part of the Daily Incense series.
  • 35 sticks - 8.75" (22 cm) long
  • Approximate burning time: 50 minutes per stick
  • Ingredients: Sandalwood (Santali lignum), Cinnamon (Cinnamonomi cortex), Patchouli (Pogostemi herba), Benzoin (Benzoinum) and spices.
This is even a better buy than the cone incense at just $3.95 (about 11 cents a piece!).
