Rector Search Committee Needs Your Input

As we launch our search for a new rector for St. Anne's, our first step will be writing a profile of the parish that will include our vision for the future and the qualities that we would like to see in our next rector. To do this, we need to hear from you!

Our first set of focus groups will be held this Sunday; Saturday, June 13; and Sunday, June 14. We will also hold focus groups on the following Wednesdays: June 10, 17 and 24.  We will be scheduling more groups once we determine the need. Childcare will be provided during most of the Sunday groups.

Please click here to sign up online.

It is so important to hear from as may parishioners as possible at this point in the rector search process. Please don't let his opportunity go by!

So Glad to BEE here! St. Anne's Now Has Bees!
Parishioner David Youngs transfers the bees from the transport box to the bee box, which is located in the memorial garden.
A colony of  bees -- 10,000 or so bees -- now call St. Anne's home. The bees arrived Tuesday afternoon. David Youngs picked up the bees and transferred them to a newly built bee box which is located near the memorial garden. The bees have access to a large amount of sugar water to encourage them to stay in their bee box and to help them adjust. We are very excited about this new project!

Can You Give Two Hours to Feed Hungry Children?

St. Anne's is seeking volunteers to work with Cornerstones and Fairfax County serving lunch to children at the Cedar Ridge Community Center. The program provides summer nutrition to school-age children who are entitled to free or reduced price meals during the school year. St. Anne's volunteers work with Cornerstones staff to set up the lunchroom, serve the meals provided by the county, clean up and get acquainted with the Cedar Ridge community. The program runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 22 through August 28 serving between 30 and 50 children daily.

This is the fifth year that St. Anne's  has worked with the program and we are looking for volunteers aged 16 (great for school Community Service hours) and up. We need volunteers who can commit to specific days (your commitment does not have to be every week) as well as substitutes. A brief orientation will be provided by Cornerstones staff at Cedar Ridge. Please click here to sign up online. For more information or to volunteer, contact Carol Hurlburt (703-264-9054).

Raise the Roof Trunk Sale to Benefit Cuban Church
La Trinidad Episcopal Church in Bermeja.        This church was decommissioned due to        the deterioration of its physical state.

Do some good and clean out your closet, join us for our "Raise the Roof" Trunk Sale on June 20, 8:00-1:00, rain or shine in St. Anne's parking lot. This trunk sale will be our first step in raising $6,400 to build a new roof for La Trinidad Episcopal Church in Bermeja, Cuba. This church was decommissioned due to the deterioration of the physical condition of the church. St. Anne's, in conjunction with the Diocese of Cuba, is working to rebuild the church and draw the church community at Bermeja together again.

Here is how our trunk sale will work:

  1. Gather the items you want to sell. These items will be sold from the     trunk of your car or in the area immediately by your car. Tables and chairs will not be provided.
  2. Bring your items to St. Anne's to sell on the morning of June 20.
  3. Sell your stuff!
  4. Write St. Anne's a check for the items you sold.
  5. St. Anne's will write you a tax receipt.
  6. Pack up unsold items and take them home - unfortunately, no items can be left at the church.
  7. La Trinidad gets a new roof!

This is a great opportunity to raise money for a wonderful cause! Please click here to reserve your spot. Hot dogs, chips and water will be available for purchase. For more information, please contact Eleanor Ware.

Planning for our 2016 Cuba Mission Trip
We are pleased to share that planning for our next Cuba mission trip has begun! We will have an informal meeting about Cuba mission trip on June 21 at 12:00. Our Cuba mission trip is planned for January 8-18, 2016.

We hope that these mission trips to Cuba will become a more permanent part of St. Anne's mission offerings. The 2016 trip will be St. Anne's third trip to Cuba. During the previous two trips, mission trip members have worked closely with the Bishop of Cuba, and St. Anne's has developed a great relation with the Bishop and her office. During our planned 2016 trip to Cuba a representative from the Diocese of Virginia will be joining us, and we will engage in a work project.
