It's Never Boring at St. Anne's!

We've had a couple of busy weekends in Outreach. On Saturday, April 25 a group led by Laurie Corkey worked at a Habitat for Humanity site.  Alongside the family that's going to be moving in to the Habitat house, they dug many ditches and moved much dirt.  Also on that Saturday at St. Anne's, our community garden volunteers, led by Betsy Carbo, were finishing preparations for our new garden.

If you were here last Sunday morning you would have seen our car wash team in action. Dozens of cars were washed (or not washed) by our Mission Trip team organized by Martha Furniss. This effort raised over $1,800 to support our trips: local, national and international.

Sunday night we had the return of St. Anne's Chili Cookoff, run by Mimi Spear and Ray Walser (our Relay for Life team leader.) With over 12 chili entries and 40 guests we brought in $1,537 for the American Cancer Society. The prize winning chilis were from: Sandra Walser (1st Place), John and Julia Hoffman (2nd Place) and Charlie Saunders (3rd Place).

Tough decisions being made at the Chili Cook Off. There were 12 chili entries! Thanks to all our participants!

Following the blessing, the congregation will progress back into the sanctuary with the ringing of bells and the much merriment!

Sandwiches for the Shelter: Saturday, May 23

Sandwiches for the Shelter: It's been quite a while, but we'll be making 240 sandwiches and 120 bag lunches for the Embry Rucker shelter again on Saturday, May 23, starting at 10:30 a.m.  As always, children old enough to help with lunch-making at home are more than welcome to join us.  We almost always complete our task within 45 minutes, so you can come help and still have plenty of time to get on with the rest of your day.  Please click here to sign up and/or contact Emily McPhie if you have any questions.

Cuba 2016
We are pleased to share that planning for our next Cuba mission trip has begun! We hope that these mission trips to Cuba will become a more permanent part of St. Anne's mission offerings. The 2016 trip will be St. Anne's third trip to Cuba. During the previous two trips, mission trip members have worked closely with the Bishop of Cuba, and St. Anne's has developed a great relation with the Bishop and her office. During our planned 2016 trip to Cuba a representative from the Diocese of Virginia will be joining us, and we will engage in a work project. The dates for our next trip will be January 8 - 18, 2016. There will be more information available in the coming weeks, so please stay tuned.

On Sunday, May 24 the Cuba and Dominican Republic missions will be hosting coffee hour. We look forward to sharing our experiences with the congregation and THANK YOU for your support of our Caribbean missions.

Godly Play Invitation

If you have thought about getting involved in Godly Play (for our kindergarten through 2nd grade students) now is the time. You are invited to come and observe a Godly Play session on Sunday, May 10. The classes are held in Rooms 3 & 4 at 9:00 a.m.

Godly Play is a method of Christian Education based on the Montessori tradition. Bible stories are told in a way that encourages children to enter into the events and relate them to their own lives. Community is developed in the class by use of the storytelling circle, shared responsibilities, prayer, and feasting. Godly Play is the way we introduce our youngest members to the stories that have shaped our faith. You will find that as the children experience these stories and are asked to "wonder" about them you too will see them in a fresh light. Please email Lee Hobrla if you are able to join us.
