Rector Search Committee and Update

While we are all still digesting the news of Father Jim's retirement, two important steps were taken this Sunday by the Vestry to bring a new rector to St Anne's.  We are blessed by a gift of time to thoughtfully consider who will lead us in the future and to thank Father Jim for his wonderful ministry to us and the world for the past 16 years.

The Vestry selected 12 members of the Search Committee to join Suzi Jones who we had selected earlier to lead the Committee.  There were 49 members of the congregation who volunteered or were recommended to serve.  It was difficult to select just 12 individuals to represent the various aspects of the parish (different services, ministries, long-time members, folks newer to the parish, music programs, young families, missions, outreach teens, Sunday School, etc.).

The committee selected by the Vestry on Sunday includes 12 individuals who we hope represent the diversity of St. Anne's. The members of the Rector Search Committee are: Joe Bellman, Bruce Boston, Susan Browne, Elizabeth Cline, Laurie Corkey, Bruce Edgerton,

Martha FurnissEllen HoffmanPaul Jones, Anne JuranDorry Kee, and Bob Van Hoecke.

The Vestry also adopted a charge to the committee establishing a division of labor between Vestry and the Committee and laying out a basic timetable for the search and selection process.  There will be four phases: conducting a self-study and developing our profile, receiving names of potential candidates, reviewing candidates and recommending a single candidate to the Vestry, and selection of the new rector by the Vestry.

The profile development phase, which includes the self-study, will be very public and open to the entire congregation.  We want every member of the parish to be involved in the process of defining who were are and who we hope to become.  We want to present a clear and compelling picture to candidates for the leadership of our beloved St. Anne's.

The next phases of the Committee's work will be confidential.  We have charged the Committee with the task of finding that one person who will lead us on the next phase of our spiritual journey as a community of faith and service.  The Committee will make periodic reports to the parish but will release no names of those being considered.  We trust that the Holy Spirit will guide their deliberations.

Our goal is to have a new rector in place by September 2016.  It is a difficult but doable task.

Senior Warden

Relay for Life and the Return of the Chili Cook-Off

In preparation for Relay for Life we are hosting a Chili Cook-Off this Sunday, May 3, starting at 6:30. This event will be a fundraiser with proceeds going to our Relay for Life team. We will be putting our money where our mouth is as participants will be voting with their wallets for the best chili. The winner will receive a 'valuable' prize. We'll need eaters as well as cooks, so the Cook-Off is open to everyone, cook or not. Bring a side dish to round things out. It promises to be a fun evening! Click here to sign up to attend, enter your chili or to play.

The Relay for Life event is Saturday, May 16 through Sunday, May 17 at South Lakes High School. We walk in shifts throughout the night. For over 10 years St. Anne's has had our Grateful Living team decked out in tie-dye. Last year we had over 30 walkers and we raised more than $3,500 for a very important cause. Of course we want to do even better this year!!! So, how can you help? Please click here to walk or donate

towards our team or a walker. You can also contact Ray Walser for more information about any and all events.

Godly Play Invitation

If you have thought about getting involved in Godly Play (for our kindergarten through 2nd grade students) now is the time. You are invited to come and observe a Godly Play session on either Sunday, May 3 or May 10. The classes are held in Rooms 3 & 4 at 9:00 a.m.

Godly Play is a method of Christian Education based on the Montessori tradition. Bible stories are told in a way that encourages children to enter into the events and relate them to their own lives. Community is developed in the class by use of the storytelling circle, shared responsibilities, prayer, and feasting. Godly Play is the way we introduce our youngest members to the stories that have shaped our faith. You will find that as the children experience these stories and are asked to "wonder" about them you too will see them in a fresh light. Please email Lee Hobrla if you are able to join us.
