Rector Search Committee Selection Process

Dear St. Anne's Family,

I am honored to have been asked by the Vestry to chair the search committee that will be seeking a new rector for St. Anne's. Jim's leadership over the past 16 years has touched all of our lives, and we will miss him and Kay so much. But together, we have built a wonderful welcoming, diverse and progressive parish that people locally and beyond look to for leadership. I am confident that we will find a new rector who is a dynamic, energetic and inspired leader who will continue our work of living into our vision of a loving, accepting and serving community.

Soon, the Vestry will constitute a search committee comprised of 12 members that represent the broad spectrum of our membership.  If you would like to serve on the committee, please call or e-mail

Susan Allen in the church office (703-437-6530) and ask -- by April 10 -- to be put on the list of people to be considered. The Vestry will make the appointments to the Search Committee at its April meeting.

A Typical Weekend at St. Anne's

Did you know that on a typical weekend the church building is used by more than 750 people? This past weekend was an excellent example of how useful and used the church building is. The weekend started Saturday morning as the space was borrowed for a same-sex blessing. The couple attends a nearby Episcopal church that typically meets in a school; they wanted to the blessing to be held in a church and St. Anne's was happy to provide the space. That event brought 100 people to St. Anne's. Later in the day, 20 families - so approximately 60 people, big and small - came to St. Anne's for our first Family Gathering. The families enjoyed a time of fellowship and some fun, family games. Throughout every weekend, St. Anne's hosts more than 100 people who come here to attend a 12-step class. On Sunday, we held our regular four services at which attendance totaled over 450. On Sunday afternoon, approximately 30 people attended the discussion lead by Katie Conway on the Episcopal Church's response to immigration and immigration reform. In the evening on Sunday, 15 people came back to church for the final Inquirers' series class. Every weekend is different, but St. Anne's is always a welcoming place of fellowship, grace, and community.

Relay for Life and the Return of the Chili Cook-Off

All of our lives have been touched by cancer in some way, whether through family, friends or ourselves. Relay for Life is one of the American Cancer Society's major fundraisers; walking and raising support for cancer research. The year it takes place at South Lakes High School  and runs from Saturday, May 16 through Sunday, May 17. We walk in shifts, rather than a 'per mile' amount and walkers recruit sponsors for the entire event, there's also the option to give a donation. It's also a great way for high schoolers to add community service hours! For over 10 years St. Anne's has had our Grateful Living team decked out in tie-dye. Last year we had over 30 walkers and we raised more than $3,500 for a very important cause. Of course we want to do even better this year!!! So, how can you help? Please click here to walk or donate towards our team or a walker.

Join us for the Return of the St. Anne's Chili Cook-off and Games Night on May 3 here at St. Anne's.  We'll be judging who makes the best chili; the winner will receive a 'valuable' prize.  We'll need eaters as well as cooks so its open to everyone; cook or not. Bring a side dish to round things out and it promises to be a fun evening! Click here to sign up to attend, enter your chili or to play.

You can also contact Ray Walser for more information about any and all events.
