Wilson and I are delighted to announce that our family is growing! We are expecting a baby in early September 2015, thanks to our gestational carrier. We know that families are created in a variety of beautiful ways.  I have a heart condition which makes it too dangerous for me to safely carry a baby to term. My best friend, Karen, gave us the most loving and generous gift when she offered to carry our baby. Please keep all of us in your prayers as we continue on this adventure to parenthood. We are excited to share our joy with our St. Anne's family!

Mentoring at Lake Anne Elementary

Lake Anne Elementary School has approached St. Anne's looking for ways to strengthen our bond with our local elementary school. They need volunteers in their Mentor Works program. Volunteers are paired with a student who can benefit from having lunch one day a week a sympathetic adult. Volunteers are asked to listen, tell stories, share ideas and experiences with a student for one hour a week. No instructional aspect or experience is necessary although language and cultural experience with Spanish, Arabic, Thai, Farsi and Erdu is a plus. Adults 18 and older are welcomed. Volunteers who do not have a student relative at Lake Anne will need a background check. All volunteers receive training from Lake Anne counselors at the start of the program. Volunteers are sought to start in the spring, break over the summer, and re-start again in the fall. Contact Bruce Edgerton (571-241-0811) if you are interested or have questions.

Kids Helping Kids

During Lent the fifth and sixth grade Sunday school class has taken on a new outreach project. On Sunday, March 15, the fifth and sixth grade Sunday school class will be holding a bake sale after the 9:00 service. Please come buy a delicious Lenten pretzel or baked good! All proceeds from the bake sale will be used to purchase supplies for immigrant children who traveled to the US on their own and who are now being sheltered in a residence about an hour away. In addition to money we raise from the bake sale, we are also accepting donations to help our KIDS HELPING KIDS cause. A list of needed items will be available next week, March 8. Thank you for all your support!

End of OAR Coat Collection: March 16

Once again St. Anne's extreme generosity in giving to our Winter Coat Drive was greatly appreciated by Fairfax County OAR. By contributing thousands of dollars worth of coats we gave  a warm start to men and women recently released from jail on their journey back to a better life. We will end the Coat Drive on Monday, March 16 and the box in the Narthex will be removed. That gives you one week to go through your closets, now that spring is hopefully coming soon, to give any last coats you find. If you would care to continue giving to OAR, you can find out more about them at www.oarfairfax.org. We all thank you for the love you showed.

Immigration & Immigration Reform:

Where Does the Episcopal Church Stand?

For those interested in learning more about the Episcopal Church's role advocating for the rights of refugees and immigrants and immigration

Katie's background includes four years of work in the immigration and refugee advocacy field for both the Episcopal Church and the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service. Highlights of her talk will include an overview of the policies and ministries of the Episcopal Church related to welcoming immigrants and refugees and how those policies and ministries intersect with the ongoing national debate around immigration policy and reform.
